What does it mean to have a soul that’s aligned, and how can you help with that?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: I know a lot of different modalities, being an owner of a metaphysical wellness center, and one of the modalities that I studied is Ayurveda. In Ayurveda, they talk about the three states of being—rajas, tamas, and sattva. In sattva, it’s like this place of peace and calm and content, and I was really taken with that, and I just ran with that.
I became certified as a life coach, and when I was working with my clients, I realized that I just have this deep desire to work with people in connecting to their original purpose—their soul plan, as what I call it. So, I do like a soul plan reading where I try to find out, based on numerology and astrology, what you came here to do according to your soul, and then I try to kind of connect people back to that. So, it’s like life coaching with a spiritual energy, a spiritual perspective attached to it.
Can you share your story of awakening to consciousness, mindfulness and spirituality? Did you grow up in a spiritual environment?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: I grew up in the beautiful country of Guyana. That is in South America physically but part of the Caribbean community, and we have such a very rich background of different religions and cultures. We’re actually called the Land of Six Races because we have a lot of people that settled in Guyana, either coming there through slavery, through indentured laborship—through the history of the Caribbean, which is kind of made up of people coming from other countries, Europe and whatnot. So, we have such a diverse, rich background, and I grew up with religion my whole life.
My father, he is an atheist, but he belongs to a Hindu family. My mother is a practicing Muslim, and these two crazy kids decided to send me to Anglican Church when I was growing up. So, I just always dabbled with religion since I was a child, and then it just sparked this natural curiosity in me about knowing more about it. Then I have a grandmother—my mom’s mom—who was very much into spiritual things. She was like what we would call today a modern-day medicine woman. So, she really fostered that spirit in me, and I found that since I was young, I was able to talk to spirit, and I just had this really deep connection.
When I got older, it was on my 30th birthday, actually, that I was woken up with a voice in my ear that said, “The time for playing is over. It’s time to work.” And it’s one of those things that we talk about, and people would listen and say, “This sounds really weird,” or some people might say, “I understand what she’s saying.” But I just got up out of the bed, kind of almost on automation, and I just got down on the floor on my knees and said, “I know nothing. Teach me everything.” And I didn’t even know how I knew those words or to say that. But that’s how I understand clear cognizance now.
So, yeah, spirit just kind of led me on this path. And when they open doors for you, man, they open doors. I didn’t have to pay—you know, like money would just magically appear for me to take the classes, get the certifications, and stuff like that. And here I am, I’m in the world.

You mentioned hearing spirit from a young age. Can you describe what that felt like over time?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: It was frightening as a child because I was very aware I was never alone, and I don’t think a lot of people realize that the veil between our worlds is so thin, and if you’re perceptive enough, you can feel the presence of other people.
So, I remember we had a bathroom in my house. It had like a clear panel door, a shower, and I would hang a towel over the clear panel door while I was showering. And my mom, she would run in the bathroom to get like a cotton wool or something, and she’d be like, “Why do you have your towel up? There’s nobody in here but you.” And I couldn’t tell her, “There’s a lot of people in here, and I don’t feel comfortable.”
One of the earliest memories is they were burying my great-great-grandmother, and she used to walk with a cane. And it was a Hindu burial, so they had to burn. After they do the rites and everything, they burn the body. And I remember stopping the whole funeral procession because she was there telling me, “I need my cane. I need my cane to walk in heaven.” Now, of course, you don’t need a cane to walk in heaven, but as a child, it felt so real. And I told my family, and the good thing about my family is that, being that we’re from the Caribbean, we tend to believe in these things a lot.
A lot of my American clients, I noticed, struggle with this a lot more because it’s not so predominant in America as it is in, say, Caribbean countries.
Were you still living in the Caribbean when you turned 30?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: No. I was living in Virginia. I was with my then-husband and my two children. I was a stay-at-home mom. I had finished college, I finished my master’s degree, I was working, but then we got married, I got pregnant, I had two babies. They were under the age of five, so I was the stay-at-home mom while he worked.
It was when I got my message, when I got my calling, and that was the predicament. It’s like, how am I going to start this when I have no clue what this is? And how would I start this when I don’t even have money, because we were barely getting by? And that’s why I say, you gotta kind of listen, you gotta tune everything out, and you gotta tune in, because after I got that message, I left it alone. And there’s a lot, guys, if you’re listening to my story, there’s a lot of little tidbits, secrets I’m dropping to you about how this works. All right.
I left it alone. I went about my day being a housewife—cleaning the house, doing laundry, cooking meals—and then something told me, here we go again, go through that box in the office that you haven’t gone through and sort it out. So I’m thinking more like a housewife, okay, I do have to get to that, so I might as well. So I go through the box and I clean it out, and guess what I found?
When I had finished college, I went for a year to Philadelphia with AmeriCorps. They had this program—I think they call it Job Corps now. They had AmeriCorps where you could do a year of service in exchange for a stipend. And I did. I was an HIV prevention counselor where I tested people for HIV, I counseled, I did sex education on the streets with prostitutes and drug dealers, and did all of that. And I did that for a year. We didn’t get paid, but we got a scholarship. And I found that paper with my scholarship, and it was expiring that year.
So, I was like, okay, I have to use this, because it was like $10,000. And I said, well, what am I going to use this for? So, I left it alone, right? Left it alone.
And then I went about my day, and then on TV, I saw something about massage school, and I was like, okay, that’s interesting. I would love to go to massage because when I was growing up, I was more drawn to nurturing people and caring for people. I used to give everybody in my household massages and facials since I was a little girl, and I was like, oh, that would be really fun to be a massage therapist. Left it alone. Then I got a mailing in my mailbox about this same massage school, and I said, well, that’s interesting.
And then just later that day, my friend said, “You would make a really good massage therapist.” Just out of the blue, in a conversation. I said, that’s three times I’ve gotten the same message. Let me look into it.
I researched massage schools in the area. I found a school 40 minutes from my house, and the counselor was amazing—the financial aid counselor. She said, “We have a program that’s on the weekends, so when your husband’s home from work, he can watch the kids. So you can come and do the program on the weekends, and you’ll graduate in 10 months.”
And it was $10,000. I said, “Do you by chance accept this scholarship?” She said, “Yeah, we do.” And it was paid for.

Did you start with one modality before exploring others in your work? How did that evolve?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: It’s just like you kind of get led to it because I really, truly believe that we all have a path to follow, and once you truly connect to that path, the doors just open.
I’ve taken classes that were like $3,000, and I would just go on blind faith. It feels right, it feels like I’m drawn here, it feels like I’m supposed to do this, so I swipe the credit card, I don’t think about it. And then later that week, I’ll make it back—like right away—whatever I do.
And that’s, I think, equivalent to what the Christians, the older religions, say: blind faith, having the faith of a mustard seed. It’s just trusting that I’m on my path. I’m doing this for the right reason, so why would I not be supported to do this.
When did the vision for the Lotus and the Light Metaphysical Center come to you? How did you create it?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: I started as Lotus Signature Massage. That was what I created after I graduated massage school. I was only doing massage, and then one of my clients that I was working on, she noticed that I had really warm hands, and she said, “You should learn Reiki.” And I said, “Okay.” So I looked into it. I learned Reiki. I became a Reiki master teacher about a year later, and then I started offering Reiki at my center.
Then I was called—another magical story—I was called to go live at an ashram for a month, all paid for, again, all taken care of, and I became a yoga teacher. So, I started offering yoga and meditation at my studio.
Then I realized the name Lotus Signature Massage doesn’t fit anymore. So then again, spirit impressed upon me to change the name to Lotus Wellness Center. So, I changed it to Lotus Wellness Center, and as Lotus Wellness Center for about 10 years, from 2009 to 2019.
And then in 2019, I just had another—I just keep following these emotions—and I just had this other spiritual awakening because I was doing less massage. I think the last time I did an actual massage was 2018. I was being mostly booked for soul alignment coaching, psychic work, mentorship—so far away from the wellness part of it. So, I said, “The name needs to change again,” and that’s when I changed it to The Lotus and the Light Metaphysical Center.

Where is it located?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: Manassas, Virginia.
Many dream of owning a physical space. What advice and reality checks can you offer those considering it?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: It’s a lot of work because, with the center that I have, I actually train healers to do what I do. So people enroll with me for six months, and they can learn all the things that I teach them.
But the thing is, you need the experience. You don’t just have the knowledge—you need the experience. What I find in the community is that a lot of people will take all the classes, get certified, and then go hang—you know, we have an old saying—hang their shingle up. You know, I’m ready for business! But it doesn’t work like that.
I would really not recommend anybody open a center if you don’t have clients. What I did was I started very, very basic. I started at my house. I was working from my basement, and I would take clients in my basement. And I did that for five years, working from the basement of my house.
Then, after five years, I remember I was hosting a meditation class, because at this time, I was doing all my classes free—meditation, yoga—by donation. And I remember I went to lock the front door and noticed there were cars all along my street.
And your neighbors are like what is going on over there?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: Every Friday night. And that was the thought that I had. Another thought dropped in—because I’m claircognizant, my gift of knowing—so the thought dropped in: You need to move soon before this does become an issue with your neighbors. Because your neighbors are nice, and they have not complained yet. But eventually, if you keep doing this, they’re going to complain.
After five years of being at my house, I decided it was time to really look for a place and to step out. But at that time, I already had clients, I had a consistent schedule, and I had consistently made the minimum I needed to make to pay bills and take care of my livelihood for six months.
That’s the tip I recommend to new healers: Wherever you’re working, if you can work from home, work from home. If you can’t work from home, find a center that will charge you per hour. At my center, we do that—we charge per hour or some of the newer healers, they could rent like one day out of the month or four days out of the month, so that way they don’t have to tie to a lease.
I make it very easy for them. They can start when they want, stop when they want. I do that because I know how hard it was to start in the beginning. And start small. Then, once you have enough income coming in for six months, where it can cover all your bills and everything, and you have a consistent clientele, then you go ahead and take a lease—that would be my experience.
The hard thing about this is that this field is still not as known. Most people know about Reiki, but that’s about it, and they still kind of expect a massage when they come for Reiki. So you have to do a lot of education.
I went out into my community. I did fairs. Whenever we had the pumpkin festival or whatever was going on, I had a table, educating people about what I do. I did free talks. I went to the library to give a free talk. Any little meetup group that was going on and was looking for free speakers, any podcast that would take me—I did free talks, free talks, free events, free shares, free everything.
And you have to do it that way in the beginning—free events, by donation—to build your name in the community until you get to that place where you’re recognized and respected.

What drives you in your work, especially when you’re focused on marketing and sales, which isn’t your primary goal?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: My life path is a nine, which is the humanitarian. That’s like Mahatma Gandhi, Bob Marley. The nines are here to evolve the consciousness of the planet, and it is my sincere belief that people like me can change the world by changing one person at a time.
If I can get you to awaken to your life purpose, if I can get you to follow the path that your soul came here to follow, you’re going to, by a side result, be happier, more joyful, more content—and that is going to add to the collective consciousness. And then the collective consciousness is going to grow.
Now, instead of just having David’s household happy, peaceful, and joyful—because David is happy, peaceful, and joyful—now we have David’s community happy, peaceful, and joyful. And then we have his state, and then we have the country.
That is my real, real aim and my real goal—and why I don’t sleep—because I truly feel that the more people I can reach, and the more people I can help connect to their purpose, the better our world will be.
And who doesn’t want to live in a world where everybody has abundance, everybody is taken care of, and everybody’s happy?
Can you describe your three soul alignment programs? Who are they for, and what impact do they have?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: For the beginner person who really doesn’t know what’s going on but is drawn to my work or drawn to working with me, we have the four-week Soul Alignment Coaching Program. I do their soul plan reading to find out—why are you here? Then we use natural laws, teaching them about the natural laws like the Law of Attraction, the Law of Vibration, the Law of Detachment—things they need to know. This helps them understand why they’re out of balance and how to get back into balance so they can start working on themselves and be happy.
So that first program is really for people who want to get ahead in life, align with the natural laws, understand their purpose, and have a clear direction on where to go.
The second program is The Awaken Lotus Program, which is a three-month program. This is for people who have some trauma, who have had to deal with things that have cut them off from that eternal supply of abundance. I am not a therapist, I am not a counselor—I’m a healer. So, we use the healing techniques of all the things I’ve learned to work on that, while simultaneously teaching them tools, tips, and techniques to heal themselves. They’ll take a Reiki class, they’ll take an Access Bars class, all while receiving their own healing with me as well.
And then the six-month program, The Enlightened Lotus Program, is geared towards people who want to do the work that I do—the lightworkers. If they want to become a healer, if they want to become a psychic or a channeler, they take the same material from the first and second programs but also receive additional training to help them become the professionals they want to be in the community.
Do you run all of your programs online?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: The first one is online. The second one can be online, but it’s a mix of online and in-person. And the last one—you do have to come into the center for some of the classes.
How would someone know which program is best for them? Is it through a conversation with you?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: Whoever’s listening to this right now already knows where they fit in the programs, because the ones that are not meant to work with other people, they’re more focused on themselves, and they’re like, No, that is not for me. But the people who feel the calling, and they’re like, Wow, that third program—wow, I would love to do that—that’s how you know. It’s a calling. You’re called to it, or you’re not.
You’ve written books, including The Awakened Life and Chronicles of a Spirit Walker: A Medium’s Journey of Light Beyond the Veil. Did mediumship come with the development of your intuitive gifts?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: Well, since I was a kid, I was talking to spirit, but it just developed more later in life. It just got really, really specific, where I started communicating with people on the other side and receiving messages from their loved ones to people here. So, I’m what they call an evidential medium. I wouldn’t just say, Oh, I have your grandmother here. I would say, Your grandmother’s here. She lived in England. Her name is Judy. I would give you evidence.
What is Chronicles of a Spirit Walker about? Who is it for, and what can readers expect?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: That was, again, spirit-led. I really didn’t want to write that book because it’s so personal. It’s so personal because it’s about my journey as a medium. So, I had to talk about my fears, my insecurities, and then also the stories that I had when I was doing mediumship sessions.
The stories I love, but there were a few that were really heart-moving for me because some of my clients have passed on to the other realm. In writing those chapters about my experiences with them, it made me very, very sad because I missed them. It was a very personal experience to write that book because it was about my life as a medium.
And I wrote it for people who are thinking about the mediumship path or who feel that they’re mediums—just to let them know that your fears are relevant, but you have to surpass them to do this kind of work. Because it is all love, it is all light, but you have to get there before you can do this work.
What do you think is the purpose of a medium in our world?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: I’m a Capricorn, so I look at everything practically. I think the purpose of a medium is to demonstrate, without a shadow of a doubt, that there is life beyond death—to ease the existential fear in people.
People are living out of fear right now, and I feel like if you can go to a mediumship demonstration and see someone bring through people from the other side with such increased clarity, and feel the energy of that, I feel that people will be just moved to the point of saying, I’ve been doing this whole living thing all wrong.
I’m focusing on the wrong things. I understand now that I do continue on. I don’t have to just live in this kind of scarcity mindset. Let me expand, let me see what else is out there, and let me really enjoy the life that I have.
I tell this story in my book and to everybody who would listen. One of my favorite clients was Dominic. He’s passed on now, but Dominic was an engineer, so he was, kind of like, my problem child. He would just come to test my soul, I swear, because he would come and he would be into this and everything. But he really wanted to learn because he was trying to save his wife, Peggy. But Peggy passed before him and then he passed shortly after.
But one time he came to me because he wanted to try a mediumship session and I brought through a friend of his name, Bill, and I got everything right, all the details right, except Bill had a red convertible. And he said Bill never had a red convertible. He’s like you don’t know what you’re talking about, Uma. I got you.
I said OK, he had a red convertible, I’m sorry you didn’t know about it. And we just agreed to disagree and we went about our day. But this is how intelligent spirit is.
That same day, out of the blue, he got a call from Bill’s nephew and he said this is so wild, we haven’t talked to each other in years and I just had a reading with a medium who brought through your Uncle Bill. She got everything right except the red convertible.
And he said oh, uncle Dom, you won’t know about the red convertible, that was before you. He loved that.
I can feel that, Dominic is with me right now, laughing about that, because he called me and he was crying and he said Uma, I came there to test you, you see, because my belief is that there are no mediums. There’s psychics, and psychics can read your mind and read your memories. But what Bill did was he gave you a memory that I would not know, to prove to me the existence of life beyond death.
And that’s why I say it’s so. Everything is so intricately amazing and this universe, it’s so expansive and people don’t realize how it just all fits together.

Which modality are you most drawn to right now? Do you feel the same about all the modalities you use?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: I do my own thing based off of the different modalities that I’ve learned from that, I really am drawn to the mindset, reset work.
Because my enlightenment has shown me that it’s really us that stops ourselves, it’s not anybody, it’s not the government, it’s not the economy, it’s not our religion, it’s not cultures, it’s not wars, it’s ourselves that stop ourselves.
Bob Marley once said, none but ourselves can free our own mind. And I do a combination of things to get my, my clients to shift. I don’t have a word for it, I don’t have a modality for it, the Uma way.
But I use a combination of things to get them, because if I can get somebody to look at something in a different perspective, it just opens up the whole world for them and then there’s no stopping them after that.
So, it’s mindset, reset work, and I say that broadly because there’s so many different methods out there and teachers out there. So, I give reference to all of them because anybody who’s focusing on changing the mindset as opposed to doing the energy healing, you’re really setting people up for success.
How did you get into streaming, and what platforms do you use? What’s your vision behind it?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: Before the pandemic I would do the Facebook lives, the YouTube streams about like classes, if I was teaching a class. But then when the pandemic hit, it really wiped out my community. There was a lot of my friends that own metaphysical wellness centers, like myself, and they all closed their doors. I know I wasn’t the only one, but I felt like I was the only center standing and money was scarce. We couldn’t go out. Nobody wanted to go out, even when the shutdown was over and we could go back outside. People weren’t going back outside and definitely didn’t want to get together for group events or community events.
I went to the platform that I’m on now, the live streaming platform. Really, to date, all jokes aside, I was single and I was like, you know, what? I’m not going to meet somebody outside because there’s nobody outside. So let me go on this dating app and I actually did meet my boyfriend that I’m still with today, five years later, and I met him through the live streams because there’s on this app there’s the dating part, where you can see pictures and talk to people and stuff.
And then the live streams part is like this, where someone is sitting there on a screen and they’re talking and then people are commenting, and I said, oh, this is interesting, I’ve never seen this. So, I was just kind of moving around the app and I met him through that and we started a conversation and then, we started talking off of that and then we just had so much in common we started dating.
But he said to me, you should try live streaming because you’re really fun and personable and easygoing. And I said okay, so I clicked go live and I did it. And when I first started doing it, I was doing what I did for my business. My idea was to promote my business and maybe I can get clients that would want to come and work with me. That didn’t work out so well. The live streams are not for that but I discovered was, I actually am really good at it. I have this way of engaging people, of creating conversations, of just elevating the consciousness of a person through regular, everyday conversations. We can talk about what’s going on in politics and I would challenge people to look at it from a higher perspective.
One of my shows is called the Great Debate on Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. and we come with six topics, my co-hosts and I, and we get people to debate and challenging conversations. But we always end each live stream by reminding people it is just an interesting point of view, it is just an opinion, so it’s not going to change your life, that this person doesn’t agree with you, so don’t worry about it, let it go. And I feel like we’re contributing to the fabric of society by reminding people. These are just all opinions and there’s nothing harmful about having a differing opinion. We can still be friends.
So, that’s how I took off. I became a featured stream host where I have a featured show on the app. I became a top badge on the app, where I’m one of the top percent of the streamers there. On TikTok, I have close to 16,000 followers now and over 100 subscribers. YouTube is growing.
But it’s just my ability to have these simple conversations with people and remind people that we don’t have to all agree. We can be different, we can even argue, we can even just really not like each other in that moment, but at the end of the day, we all want the same thing, which is peace, love, light and happiness.

Which platforms do you stream on? Do you have different shows on each, and how can people follow you?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: I’m a top ad streamer on the MeetMe app, and then I am a TikTok live streamer. I’m also a content creator on YouTube, a content creator on Instagram and Facebook, and then I have my podcast, the Lotus Lounge Podcast. It’s on wherever you find podcasts, iHeartRadio, Apple, Spotify, Buzzsprout.
On Mondays, I do Uma’s Lotus Lounge at 5pm. That is live on MeetMe and on YouTube at 5 p.m. and it’s like a show where we start, my co-host and I, Dannea. We start your week, right. We give you like each Zodiac sign gets a message for the week. If you’re watching live from MeetMe, you can send a gift to actually get your own personalized reading. We give you like a thoughtful affirmation, crystal of the week, things like that to start your week.
On Wednesdays, I have the great debate that is on MeetMe at 10 p.m. and at 8 p.m. on YouTube I have Uma Talks where I pick a topic, like, the topic this week is the Sensitive Empath. So, I’m going to be talking to the empaths how to handle your gifts and your abilities and to be able to use it for the greater good. And those are all free talks. These are all free, yeah.
How do you manage everything you’re doing?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: The hardest thing for me is doing this without an assistant because it’s just, I’m a clear cognizant, so I have the gift of channeling knowledge and it’s just constant, it’s nonstop, and I don’t have enough human bandwidth to do it. As I’m sitting here right now, I’ve already come up with three new ideas to do in terms of forming a class, forming a retreat and running a live stream, and I’m just always writing things down and I have so much good stuff but I don’t think I can see my full potential because I am super busy with it.
But it’s just one of those things. I feel like this is what I’m supposed to be doing and I love doing what I do. My Dad told me when I was like 12 years old. He said, if you love what you do for work, it’s not considered work. And I agree with that. I could work 60 to 80 hours a week and it doesn’t feel like work. This feels like fun but. I’m aligned with my sole purpose.

Where’s the best place for people to follow you or connect with your coaching programs?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: Oh, definitely my website at www.thelotusandthelight.com. You can follow me on TikTok. You can follow me on Instagram. I have two accounts on Instagram Umabee1111 and also the Lotus and the Light. You can follow my YouTube channel, the Lotus and the Light. You can follow me on Facebook, the Lotus and the Light. It’s either you’re looking for the Lotus and the Light or you’re looking for Umabee1111. That’s what you’re looking for out there.
If someone feels stuck in their life, what advice or encouragement would you give them to get aligned?
Uma Alexandra Beepat: I would say have grace for yourself. I would say you are absolutely perfect the way you are. A lot of your stress is trying to keep up with these ideals or people that have no bearing in your life. Learn to accept where you’re at right now. Learn to be grateful for what’s working. Give your attention to what is working. Decrease your attention on what is not working and just have grace for yourself. Start there and you’ll be amazed at how this like feeling of peace will start to wash over you when you realize I don’t have to have it all figured out, I don’t have to have all that money, I don’t need all those things. I can just kind of wake up, go to work, come home and chill.
A lot of my clients, they started, I started teaching them to lie. I’m a big fan of lying because it’s like would you rather tell somebody the truth and hurt their feelings, or would you rather give a little white lie and just be like, you know what? No, I cannot make it to your party on Saturday. I have so much work to do. I have to take on an extra shift. Meanwhile, you’re at home Netflix and chilling by yourself with your snacks, right?
So, it’s okay, because sometimes you just got to know when to pull back on things. It’s about following the energy, really and truly. So, follow your energy. If you don’t want to do something, don’t do it, but you don’t have to be mean to people. Just you know, let them know. I’ll be back. I just maybe need some self-care time. Yeah, have grace.
Uma, thank you so much for your wisdom. Thank you for all the things that you’re doing in the world. I feel how big your heart is and your desire to help people find their purpose, live in a soul aligned state, and it’s just beautiful what you’re doing.
Uma Alexandra Beepat: I appreciate it. Thank you for what you’re doing in the world and for contributing to our fabric of our lives. We appreciate it.
"Learn to accept where you're at right now. Learn to be grateful for what's working. Give your attention to what is working. Decrease your attention on what is not working and just have grace for yourself."
