I love watching TV programmes where people meet in the hope of finding their perfect match. In the UK, we have ‘First Dates’ where people meet in a nice restaurant, and we get to see how their date works out.

Many adverts on TV focus on love, and there are a lot of songs in the charts about Love.

In February, we celebrate Valentine’s Day. People send one another Valentine’s cards and gifts.

Love is something we all crave. Many of us dream of meeting and marrying the person of our dreams, telling ourselves that if we find our soulmate, everything will be perfect.

We are in love with the idea of being in love.

Many people find it much harder to find their perfect match than they expected. They may meet someone, and initially everything seems perfect, but after a time, the cracks begin to show, and the relationship doesn’t work out.

People start to wonder what is wrong with them. How come everyone else seems all loved up while they are alone and heartbroken?

Could it be that in our search to find love, we might be looking in the wrong places? Before we start to look for love from other people, maybe we can start by learning to love ourselves?

This can be hard at first, but once we learn to love ourselves, we are better prepared to accept love from others.

Let’s Love Ourselves:

  • Start by thinking of three things that you love about yourself. If you find this difficult, start by identifying three things that you like about yourself. If you struggle with this, ask a friend or someone you trust what they like about you.
  • Create an affirmation. Say it out loud to yourself. Try saying, ‘I deeply and completely love and accept myself.’ Do this every day, and you will start to believe it.
  • Treat yourself as you would a good friend. When you treat yourself kindly, others will start to treat you well, too.

Once we genuinely love and accept ourselves, our relationship with others tends to improve. We feel better able to love and support others, and they are more likely to treat us well. As we become more loving to one another, we help to create a kinder, more loving world.

TAKE ACTION: Cathy’s Wellbeing Club CIC was formed to establish a true sense of Community. We aim to create a happier, more loving world. Find out more by joining our virtual Café.
