What if the moment you finally stop searching outside of yourself… is the moment everything shifts?

For Brenda Lee Mattausch, three decades of success in private aviation checked every box—financial freedom, achievement, prestige. Yet beneath the surface was a persistent question: Is this all there is? One spontaneous trip to Maui changed everything. A profound awakening led her to connect with a deeper part of herself—one guided not by perfectionism or performance, but by inner knowing.

In this conversation, Brenda shares how dismantling old beliefs has opened her heart, how triggers have become portals for healing, and why your authentic self already holds the answers you’ve been seeking. She reveals the moment she chose peace over achievement—and how that decision transformed her life.

Brenda Lee Mattausch - Awakened Magazine

I loved reading your chapter for our upcoming Awakened Hearts book. You had a very successful 30-year career running your own business, but there came a point when you asked, Is this really it? Is this all there is? Can you give us a quick backstory on what you did for those 30 years — and what led you to that moment of questioning?

Awakened HeartsBrenda Lee Mattausch: I worked in private aviation. I owned a company that managed private jets and chartered them worldwide for rock stars, iconic celebrities, and royal families. I loved every moment of it — until the day I didn’t.

In 2014, something inside me began bubbling up. I started becoming aware of myself in a new way. I was asking bigger questions and noticing that I no longer felt aligned with the environment around me. It wasn’t that anything was wrong with the people in my life — I was shifting, and I didn’t feel commonality anymore.

I thought I had checked every box: succeed, buy a home, be debt-free, make money. But something was missing. I started asking the universe, Is this everything? I wasn’t loving it anymore. I was good at it, but there had to be more. And when I started asking those bigger questions, I began receiving answers — even when I didn’t yet understand them. That made me curious.

I know at one point a friend encouraged you to go to Maui. You took that step — you went to Maui. What happened on the island?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: Maui is incredibly special — still in my heart. I had told a friend, “My head is going to pop off my shoulders,” and he said, “Why? You have everything.” I said, “Do I?” And he replied, “Have you ever thought of going to Maui?”

Something inside me said yes — instantly. Three days later, I was on Maui.

When I landed, I went to the beach. Surrounded by hundreds of people, yet feeling completely alone, something happened inside me. I met a part of myself — a version of me I now know was always there. In that moment, I didn’t recognize her, but I loved her.

I had an awakening. It came through as an energetic language, and I knew I belonged on Maui. I felt as if I had lived a lifetime there. Something activated in me. That “vacation” of eighteen days became a journey of Why am I here? And What is this island going to teach me?

Within five weeks, I had moved to Maui.

That is wild. When I read that in your chapter, I literally gasped. Five weeks?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: It didn’t feel wild to me. It was instant: I have to live here. Those eighteen days were heaven on earth. Every corner of the island spoke to me. I flew back to Florida, locked up my house, and five weeks later, I was living on Maui. I stayed for almost seven years.

You describe that once you were living there, you started having lucid dreams and meeting beings of light. Did you grow up with spirituality or faith that made you open to those experiences, or was this new for you?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: I didn’t grow up with religion or spirituality — I didn’t believe in any of it. As a little girl, I could read everything: body language, emotions, the truth behind someone’s words. No one explained what that meant, so I thought something was wrong with me. I could tell when someone was lying or in pain. That made me a rescuer — I wanted to make sure others didn’t feel what I felt as a child.

The activation on Maui gave me a broader understanding of why I had that childhood. One night, I asked the universe, Show me why I’m here. Show me who I really am. I was wide awake in bed. A green auric light came through and surged through my body. Suddenly, I was in the middle of the universe, meeting a light I thought was God — and then I realized it was me. I was part of that source.

My Council of 12 was there. They showed me why I had gone through everything I had gone through — from childhood to age 49. And in that moment, it all made sense. I wasn’t scared. I wanted more.

Brenda Lee Mattausch - Awakened Magazine

And so that was the first time you had experienced anything like that?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: Yes, the very first time.

After you had this experience, did you tell someone? Did you call anybody, or did you keep it to yourself?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: I started talking to people on Maui. They had heard of experiences like that, but no one could really help me. So I thought, Okay, I’m on my own with this. I began talking to my guides, and I started astral traveling every night. I would come back with answers and clarity. Those experiences helped me believe what was happening, and that belief expanded my consciousness quickly.

That part again — the belief system helped you expand your consciousness quickly. What do you mean by your belief system?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: For most of my life, I wanted scientific proof of everything. I didn’t buy into politics or religion. None of it felt like it added value to humanity. I wanted to talk about deeper things — things with emotion, things that mattered — but everyone around me just wanted to talk about the news.

These experiences gave me a new belief system. They validated what I had always known: that there is something more. As a child, I used to look up at the sky and say, Somebody dropped me off on the wrong planet. Come pick me up. I couldn’t understand why people didn’t care more about each other.

Because of that, I became a rescuer. I wanted to help everyone avoid pain because I had felt so much pain myself. But eventually, I realized I wasn’t supposed to be rescuing others — I was supposed to be rescuing myself. That’s the polarity and duality of it.

For people listening who have that same tendency — wanting to help, wanting to fix, or even, as you say in your chapter, wanting to “save” — what did you learn about yourself? What was motivating that pattern, and how did it unravel or heal?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: My healing — what I call dismantling my egoic program — began when I realized the savior part of me came from a wounded part of myself. That wound attracted people with the same wound who needed rescuing. I didn’t understand that at the time, because I was operating inside the mind program that keeps us in 3D.

When I started healing my own wounds, practicing self-awareness, and questioning every thought that came from my mind — which often isn’t truly my mind — I began receiving answers from my heart instead. That made sense to me. It was the same feeling I had followed my entire life when I took risks or acted on intuition.

The dismantling happened quickly. Once I healed that wound, I stopped attracting people who needed saving. Suddenly, people were coming into my life already healed — maybe with some triggers or small things to work through — but they weren’t matching that old energy because I had transmuted it.

During that healing, were your guides the ones helping you through astral projections, or were there other resources — books, teachers, something else?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: I wish my guides could have done all the healing for me, but it just doesn’t work that way. You have to do the inner work.

If I had to name two books that truly supported my process, they would be The Untethered Soul and The Four Agreements. Those were the only books that held me accountable.

Once I began holding myself accountable, I started getting triggered constantly. I would literally say, Okay, universe, trigger me. I want to see myself in everyone. I want to clear this.

And it happened fast. I stopped projecting and started treating everything as a holographic message from the universe, showing me more of myself.

My guides helped, but every time I asked them to do the work for me, they said, You have to do the work.
And every time I did it, they showed me why — the clarity came afterward. That was the reward.

Brenda Lee Mattausch - Awakened Magazine

One of the things you share in your chapter is that even though you were very successful in business, you realized later that you were triggered often. We’re all triggered, of course — but what patterns did you notice, and how did you start recognizing those triggers as projections? And what was the reward your guides showed you?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: I became an overachiever and a perfectionist — both shaped by my childhood. And those qualities served me in business, but they made my personal life more challenging.

I had extremely high expectations of everyone around me. I always did everything I said I would do, and I expected others to do the same. But that’s impossible — none of us can be perfect. Today, I give myself grace, and I give others grace, because intention is more important than perfection.

When I started noticing my triggers, I began to see that I was creating them. I would project a situation from my own fear, and then watch it play out on a screen — with the person in front of me holding that projection.

Instead of correcting them or trying to fix anything, I would lock myself away for days and replay the scenario, looking for my part in it. As soon as I owned my piece, I gained a higher view of why I reacted that way.

There is always a gift in the trigger. I tell my clients: “Run toward the people who trigger you — they’re holding a gift for you to unwrap.”

And when your guides said there was a gift in those triggers, what was the gift for you? What did healing the perfectionism give you?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: The gift is remembrance.

Not intellectual understanding — remembrance. A knowing that comes from Source, from Creator, from the highest consciousness we are all connected to. The gifts I receive don’t come from my mind. They come from that connection.

The gift is knowing my path is lit, knowing why I’m here, and having faith in myself and in the Universe — God, Creator, Source. It’s all the same.
One of my strongest clairs is claircognizance, that knowing. I had it as a little girl — I always just knew when something was wrong. The difference now is I don’t shut it down. I embody my gifts. I trust my wisdom. And I keep expanding.

You mention in your chapter the moment when your mind and heart began speaking in divine union. What did that feel like, and how did it change you?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: I had been dismantling my egoic program for about a year and a half — catching myself, speaking out loud so I could hear who was talking, and questioning every thought. I realized that most of those thoughts were never truly me.

I knew that heart coherence and mind coherence existed, but I hadn’t experienced it until one night. I was in bed, giving gratitude for the day and thanking the universe for conspiring with me — even through lessons.

As I drifted toward sleep, a fear-based thought came to mind. It wasn’t even something I was worried about. It felt like one of those old “leaks” from the egoic program — testing whether I was still in fear.

I opened my mouth to correct the thought… and I heard my heart do it.

My heart spoke to my mind with so much love and reverence.
Then my mind responded back.
There was a surrender.
I witnessed the whole exchange — wide awake.

I realized I was experiencing heart–mind coherence in real time. I was so excited, I didn’t want to sleep because I thought I might miss their conversation. The next day, I realized: This is happening all the time. I’m just finally aware of it.

I wasn’t observing it as “Brenda,” or from the wounded self, or even the achiever. I was observing it from that higher state — from Source.

It changed everything.

Brenda Lee Mattausch - Awakened Magazine

Your mind then presented a fear-based question in that moment. Do you remember what the question was?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: It had to do with astral traveling. I felt a surge of energy in my body and thought I was about to astral travel — I hadn’t traveled in a while. But I hadn’t eaten well that day, and I didn’t feel like I had enough energy. My mind started saying, You shouldn’t be astral traveling. This isn’t a good idea.

And before I could correct it, my heart stepped in.

I didn’t write down the exact words because when you’re in it, you’re just in it. But the moment awakened me to a part of myself that was so powerful. It amplified my belief that I have never been alone — not for a single moment. There is always a dialogue happening: sometimes subconscious programming, sometimes collective noise, and sometimes guidance.

My job is to determine what belongs to me.

Most of the thoughts we think are “ours” aren’t actually ours at all. They’re part of the collective. We just pick them up.

Is heart–mind coherence something we can cultivate? Can we train the heart to help guide the mind? How do we develop that?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: Yes — and Joe Dispenza is a master at teaching that.

For me, I’ve always followed an inner knowing. Most of my life, people asked, Where are you going? Why are you leaving? Why are you moving? They would say, “You have everything here.” My answer was always: I don’t know. It just feels right.

I wasn’t leaving anything — I was moving toward something new.

And because I’d never experienced what I was moving toward, my mind had no reference point. So when my mind tried to warn me about something it had no experience with, I learned not to tolerate it. I would tell myself, You have no idea. We haven’t been there yet. That’s not my thought.

I follow what feels right. It’s a knowing — like hearing a song only I can hear.

It’s like a dog whistle — only I recognize it.

How do we find that “song” for ourselves? How do we know what’s guiding us?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: You don’t have to find it. It’s already here.

You just have to make space to hear it.

Life is loud. Everyone is scrolling, grinding, doing more. I lived that way for years — constantly trying to achieve and produce. But eventually, you start asking bigger questions. Questions that have nothing to do with the news, politics, your friends, or what everyone else thinks.

Questions only you can answer.

Or that you ask God, Creator, Source — whatever name you use.

You have to become still enough, and have enough grace, to hear the answer… even if it’s not what you want to hear. Because sometimes the guidance comes with change, discomfort, or letting go.

But everything happens for you, not to you.

When you live from that truth, every trigger becomes a teacher. Every lesson becomes a gift waiting for you on the other side.

You describe 2020 as the most liberating year of your life. For many people, that year marked a massive shift. You ended up closing your business during that time. What led you to that decision, and what did freedom feel like on the other side?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: 2020 was amazing. I was living on Maui, and when everything shut down, the island went still. No tourists. Empty beaches. Just locals. I met a new level of stillness — a new level of peace — and I was swimming in it. I remember thinking, How is life getting better and better in the middle of the Pacific Ocean?

I didn’t know many people — I had left everyone behind — and I was just finding myself. Then the phones started ringing again because airplanes could fly. A well-known rockstar called and wanted one of my planes for a three-month world tour.

There was just… no.

I knew that if I said yes to that contract, I’d be giving up my peace. I hung up the phone and, in that moment, decided to shut down my company. I wasn’t willing to lose what I had found.

I didn’t question it. I didn’t wonder if I had enough money, or what I would do next, or whether I was too young to retire. My mind and my heart were unified — completely coherent — and they both said, Yes. Your peace is more important.

It happened fast. And I have never regretted it.

Brenda Lee Mattausch - Awakened Magazine

As this freedom opened up and you closed your business, how did you begin to use the gifts that have been inside you since childhood? What did shifting into this new work look like?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: I was always trying to rescue people — since I was six years old — thinking I was helping them. I see now that I wasn’t. But what that showed me is that I’ve always been wired to guide, to teach.

Whatever we were doing as children is often a clue to our purpose. My inner child was already showing me what I came here to do.

I’ve always been good at giving advice to people. Whether they took my advice or not, it was usually accurate. So I began talking to people about how I dismantled my programmed mind. I noticed how people responded — their eyes lit up, and I lit up. I realized: This is how I teach.

Not by giving opinions. Not by rescuing.
But by walking alongside people and helping them find what’s already within them.

I don’t deposit wisdom into anyone. I help them access their own. Their expression of truth won’t look like mine. Each person has their own unique energetic signature, and once they connect to their higher self, everything unfolds from there.

What did it look like to begin turning that into a business?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: At first, I gave a lot away. I did coaching and sessions for free. The rescuer was back. Not because people needed rescuing — but because I have a big heart and I was overgiving again.

I became aware that I was slipping back into an old pattern. And then, my higher self dropped the words Attuned Guidance into my mind. I thought, Yes. That’s what I’m tapped into.

That same day, I realized: I’m meant to start a new business — but nothing like my previous companies.
This business was a platform to share wisdom with those who are ready to receive it.

And then, the phone started ringing.

You attract who you are — not what you want.

People found me on Maui, off the coast of Maui, and even tourists traveling through. It just organically became the next chapter.

One of the things I know you focus on is helping people become aware of the universal field — how to listen to it, receive guidance, and gain wisdom. For someone who may not be familiar with that language, what is the universal field, and how do we tap into it?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: The universal field — the quantum field, the unified field, Source — is the divine field we all come from. We’re living within it here on Gaia, in what we call the Matrix. It’s alive. It’s full of energy, information, and wisdom, and it’s our birthright to tap into it.

Everyone is interacting with it every day, unconsciously. That’s the programmed mind — just going through the motions of life. The universe doesn’t judge. It doesn’t decide, you’re good, you’re bad, you get more, you don’t. It simply mirrors your internal state.

It’s coherence.

It responds to what you’re projecting and what you believe you’re worthy to receive. When you’re open, when you’re in receiving mode, not over-giving or out of balance, the unified field always responds. It holds the answers.

I just happened to see it. It’s like watching a living script of someone’s life — always running, always communicating.

The answers come through everything: music, a line in a TV show, a conversation with a stranger, numbers on a license plate. It’s happening all the time.

Brenda Lee Mattausch - Awakened Magazine

How did you learn to see all of that? Was it something that developed over time or something that began in Maui during your awakening?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: I’ve seen it since I was five. But I shut it off. I thought something was wrong with me. I would tell people what I sensed, and they’d say, “How do you know that? You’re just a kid.” So I hid it.

When I got to Maui, I felt like I was home — safe to be fully who I am. I stopped tolerating bad behavior. I stopped protecting other people’s feelings at the expense of my truth. If something triggers someone, that trigger belongs to them — and there’s a gift inside it.

When I started dancing with the universal field, my conscious awareness expanded. I could see what was already there. Really, all we are is awareness. The body is just the vessel that lets our awareness interact with the world.

It’s unlimited. And I live in that awareness most days because it’s so beautiful — and yes, I still go into traffic and chaos and have to focus on driving. But the field never leaves. It’s always there.

Can you share a real example — maybe from a client — of someone who began tapping into this field and started creating different results in their life?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: Yes. I recently worked with a young woman who realized she was playing the victim. She saw how that pattern wasn’t serving her anymore. She became consciously aware that she was the one trapping herself.

You attract who you are — not what you want.

Because I’ve done my own healing, I can clearly see what people don’t say. I mirror it back so they can see it too, and then they start doing the inner work.

She dismantled most of her program. She’s under 30 — which is amazing. She’s now manifesting the life she wants. We worked with visualization so she could feel the reality she wants to create.

You have to become what you want in order to attract what you want.

Talk to me about who you primarily serve. You’ve mentioned that we attract who we are, but do you tend to see a certain type of person or a common challenge in the people who come to you?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: I work with a wide range of people, but lately I’ve been attracting individuals who struggle with boundaries. Even people in their fifties and sixties who have never learned how to set boundaries — and boundaries are essential if you want to create what you truly desire.

Another common theme is belief. People think they need proof in order to believe. I teach them that it doesn’t work that way. Your body and your emotions are the truth—how you feel in someone’s presence tells you everything. When you honor that and listen to your heart, the path lights up. Synchronicities begin to appear. Answers show up.

I don’t make decisions with my mind anymore. My mind worked incredibly hard for years — it can rest now. My heart leads, and my mind supports when needed. I live in my heart space every single day.

If someone wanted to begin living from their heart space, what would be a first step?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: The heart is always whispering — but most people can’t hear it because they’re still in the program. They’re projecting everything outward.

To hear the heart, you have to dismantle what blocks it.

At night or during meditation, I invite my mind to be still: “You can rest now. I’m in charge.”
It’s a practice — even just 15 or 20 minutes a day to drop into the heart.

Once you feel it, you’ll know. The heart doesn’t arrive. It has always been there.

The tools depend on the person: books, meditation, breathwork, and ecstatic dance. It depends on their background and what they’re moving through — trauma, insecurity, exhaustion, or a health issue. There’s no one-size-fits-all. When someone is in front of me, I can see the whole picture and guide them from there.

Brenda Lee Mattausch - Awakened Magazine

Your mission states that you help people “embrace their authentic self and transform their dreams into powerful realities.” What keeps most people from experiencing their authentic selves or living their dreams?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: Most people believe everything they want is out there. They don’t realize that it’s being projected from inside themselves — onto the screen of their life.

Until someone is willing to look within and ask, What is this situation teaching me about me?
They will keep projecting outward.

Everything in your life is a reflection: your thoughts, emotions, voice, energy field, and body. When you claim accountability, the outside world stops controlling your experience.

Your authentic self appears when you remember who you are without anything external.

I know you offer one-on-one coaching and team coaching, and you also created four courses: Mastering Triggers, Your Vibration Matters, Mirror Reflections, and Signs & Synchronicities. Give us a quick overview — starting with Mastering Triggers.

Brenda Lee Mattausch: These courses came directly from the tools I used on myself. I realized that if I put everything into a single session, it would be too much to integrate. Each course is broken into 20-minute lessons, offering lifetime access, and you can progress at your own pace.

Mastering Triggers teaches that every trigger is a gift. It offers expanded awareness of yourself. The person triggering you is holding space for your evolution — whether they know it or not.

Your Vibration Matters teaches that you attract who you are, not what you want. When you close the door on old patterns, new doors are already open — you just become aware of them.

Mirror Reflections helps you see yourself through others. We’re always meeting past, present, or future aspects of ourselves. When people see this for the first time, everything clicks.

Signs & Synchronicities teaches the language of the universe. The unified field is speaking to you through everything — music, conversations, numbers, license plates. When you believe, the universe must respond.

And your courses are very financially accessible.

Brenda Lee Mattausch: Yes — they’re $27 for lifetime access with the 4 Course Bundle. Each one is designed to open your awareness and activate the field. When you remember who you are, you move into a completely different reality.

What would you say to five- or six-year-old Brenda Lee now? If you could speak to her heart back then, knowing what you know today, what would you say?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: I would say, You are so loved and so divinely perfect. You were created perfect. Not only can you not do anything wrong, but you have never done anything wrong. You were designed to be uniquely you, and you won’t look or act like anyone else. If you grow up knowing how perfect you are, you’ll have a beautiful experience, and you’ll one day guide others from a healed place rather than a wounded one.

Where can people connect with you? What’s the best place for them to follow you online?

Brenda Lee Mattausch: My website is attunedguidance.com, and all of my courses are available there. I’m also on Instagram.

It’s so clear that you are deeply embodied in your work and that you genuinely want the best for people. Before recording, you mentioned that your friends call you the “truth fairy,” and you definitely shared a lot of truth with us today. Thank you so much.

Brenda Lee Mattausch: Thank you so much. The truth really is the only way you get there. When you’re ready to step out of denial and into truth — which can feel like a big leap — you’ll be grateful you did. It’s a process. Trust the process, and have fun. Life is meant to be enjoyed. Don’t be afraid of the unknown — be curious about it.

"I wanted to help everyone avoid pain because I had felt so much pain myself. But eventually, I realized I wasn’t supposed to be rescuing others — I was supposed to be rescuing myself. That’s the polarity and duality of it."
