In addition to our weekly interviews with inspiring leaders, I’m going to start bringing you solo episodes where I’ll share something that’s on my heart – something I’m learning that I believe could be helpful for you as well.

Many of these episodes will be focused on equipping conscious leaders to amplify their work and wisdom. There are so many people teaching modalities such as reiki, breathwork, meditation, and mediumship, and I appreciate those wonderful teachers. There are also so many people teaching sales and marketing – the practical side of growing a sustainable conscious business.

But, I’m interested in sharing my thoughts on leadership – the leading of oneself and the leading of others. If there’s anything we need in our world at this point, it’s conscious leadership.

I’ve been a leader for my entire life in one shape or form.

In fact, for 10 years, I served as a pastor in growing churches in southern California. I know what it’s like to stand in front of hundreds of people every week to deliver a message of vision and hope. I know what it’s like to lead a staff of a dozen people. I know what it’s like to stress over the mission of the organization and having the funds to see it all come to fruition.

And, for the past 17 years, I know what it’s like to be a solopreneur running a successful marketing business, writing and publishing a dozen books, producing and directing four award-winning feature films on important social issues…and now launching Awakened Magazine.

I’ve also made some really bad decisions as a leader – too many to count actually.

If I can help propel you forward and navigate around some of the landmines that I’ve stepped on, that will bring joy to my heart!

In the next few solo episodes, I want to introduce you to a book that has been very helpful for me as I think about communication. It’s called The Seven Frequencies of Communication: The Hidden Language of Human Connection by Erwin McManus. He downloaded this book in three days of furious writing where he sensed the Divine gave him insight into a framework of understanding how we communicate as human beings. It’s an incredible book, and I’m going to walk through the book and share all seven frequencies along with my experiences and thoughts. I encourage you to get it, and we’ll link it in the show notes.

I have to tell you though that something powerful has been on my heart about you, and I want to share some simple truths with you today…

We’re all part of the divine experience, and we happen to be here on this planet at this exact moment in time. Can you feel the gravity of that? This is no coincidence. I believe that you and I are here for a reason right now. Together, at this moment. Wow. Let that sink in.

I don’t want to assume that I have some grand role in all of this, but I do feel a deep calling to step forward, to be a voice, to stand in the midst of the darkness and point toward the light. I believe you feel that calling, too. Do you feel it stirring within you?

  1. You are called to be a messenger of love, light, and limitless possibilities.
The role of a messenger is clear – focus on the message and those who are ready to receive it. The focus is never on the messenger themselves. It’s so tempting to say, “Look at me! Look what I have to say! Look at how incredible I am!” But that’s not what this is about. It’s about the message. And the message is so simple, so powerful: You are love. You are the light of the world. You have access to limitless possibilities.

This is the message that flows through the divine. And your role, my role, is to deliver it. To embody it. To live it.

Your expression of this message is unique to you. It’s shaped by your culture, your personality, your gifts, and your life experiences. We need your expression of this truth. But always remember: the focus is not on you—it’s on the message.

  2. Don’t underestimate the darkness in our world.
There is darkness in this world. We see it, don’t we? When we look at the actions of humankind, the harm we do to each other and ourselves and our planet, it can be heartbreaking. It’s easy to think something is inherently wrong within us. But I don’t believe that. I believe we are light. I believe we are love. And yes, I believe we have shadow sides as well.

I’ve seen the shadow in myself—the part that wants to control, to manipulate, to accumulate out of fear. But here’s the truth: without shadow, there can be no light. The shadow offers us an opportunity to grow, to shine brighter.

Don’t be surprised when you find yourself in dark places. That’s where your light is needed most. Don’t be surprised when those who are lost or hurting come to you for help. You are light. That is your purpose. And it’s in the darkest places that your light can shine the brightest.

Yes, it’s wonderful to gather with other people of the light, to find community and encouragement, but the true work is shining in the darkness. It’s walking into spaces where love and light are desperately needed. That’s your calling.

Now, there will be people who don’t understand you. They might call you strange. They might reject you. They are not bad people—they are simply asleep. They are walking in darkness, blind to the truth of love, light, and limitless possibilities.

But shouting at them, belittling them, dismissing them? That won’t wake them up. Do you know what will? Living your light. Showing generosity, patience, kindness, and love. Believing in their potential when they can’t see it themselves. Standing with them when all seems lost. That’s how we help others awaken—by walking with them, by embodying light, love, and limitless possibilities.

And, there may be people who walk in the light who attack you because they believe they’re farther along on the path or know more than you or have the best way to bring about healing and wholeness. Don’t respond. As someone once said, “When they go low, we go high.” Stay focused on your message and mission. Ignore the naysayers and live in alignment with the divine calling on your life.

  3. Be diligent in your work.
There’s a lesson my father taught me that I’ll never forget. He said, “Raise your sails high when the winds of the Spirit are blowing. And when the breeze is still, row in the direction you feel the Spirit guiding.”

Isn’t it wonderful when we feel the wind at our backs? Everything flows. Opportunities come easily. People cheer you on. But life isn’t always like that, is it? There are seasons when the wind disappears. And it’s in those moments that diligence becomes our guide.

I don’t know what season you’re in right now. But I want to encourage you: be diligent. Get quiet. Listen to that still, small voice of the Spirit. And row in that direction—every single day.

Some people say, “Just believe it, and you’ll achieve it.” Others say, “Hustle, hustle, hustle.” But here’s the truth: the people who make the greatest impact believe in their vision with everything they’ve got. And they work every day to bring it to life. They raise the sail when the wind blows. And when it doesn’t, they row.

What does that look like for you? It means doing the things that keep you aligned with love, light, and limitless possibilities. Taking care of your mind, body, and spirit. Writing down your goals. Taking action—even on the hard days. Even when it’s uncomfortable. Learn what you need to learn. Partner with others when you need help. And take that step, every single day.

You are needed in this world. Your message is needed. Your creations are needed. Your essence, your voice—they are needed. Do not underestimate this. If there is darkness, if there are people asleep, if there are those in need of healing—you are needed.

At Awakened Magazine, our mission is clear. We amplify the voices of conscious leaders, healers, and coaches to awaken the world to consciousness—to raise awareness. To help people understand that they are loved by the divine. That they are made of love. That they are light. That they have access to limitless possibilities.

That is the message. That is the mission. And how do we help others awaken? By loving them. By embodying light and love in everything we do. By showing generosity and living our values. And by believing, with every fiber of our being, that there are limitless possibilities for us all.

So, will you join us? Will you step into your calling as a messenger of love, light, and limitless possibilities? I hope you will. Because you are needed.

Don’t be surprised when you find yourself in dark places. That’s where your light is needed most.
