Living Behind the Wall
Thinking back to who I was before my somatic and energy work, the transformation is shocking. I was living my life from behind a wall of my own creation. This wall had grown so tall it took a massive effort to get through or over. A wall I thought created safety, but in reality, it only made me lonely and kept me in a constant state of anxiety. The wall had been constructed stone by stone throughout my life, a common response to trauma. Without processing our traumas, we all find ways to cope, and my way was the wall.

The Transformational Power of Somatic Coaching
At this point, I had begun my coaching certification program and had done significant self-development work. Therapy had been part of my journey, sometimes with great therapists, sometimes not. I knew my calling was coaching people through transformation, but I couldn’t go as deep with my clients as I desired—not without breaking down my own emotional barriers.
When I began looking for a somatic coach, I didn’t know exactly what I needed, but I felt disconnected from my body and knew my relationship with money was imbalanced. I understood that to help my clients deeply, I had to do the work myself. As the saying goes, “You can’t take others further than you’ve gone yourself.” I was stuck, and I knew it.
Through somatic coaching, I found someone who guided me through painful emotions, feelings, and old wounds—some familiar, some hidden. She gave me a safe space to process energy through my body, allowing me to break free from patterns that no longer served me.
I didn’t realize how profound the changes were at first, but over a year, I came to see that the walls I had built had come down. Life started to flow differently. I was no longer detached. As an empath, I feel deeply—both my emotions and others’—and have difficulty differentiating between the two. Growing up, there wasn’t space for my emotions, and I learned to view them as something “wrong.” Each disappointment added another stone to my wall.

Confronting Nonattachment
In college, I was introduced to the Buddhist concept of nonattachment, which terrified me. Raised in a Mormon household, the idea of letting go of control and love felt foreign and frightening. I equated love with worry and control. Letting go felt like losing love. But I’ve come to realize that love is more like oxygen—unseen yet vital. We suffer when we cut ourselves off from love, whether intentionally or through fear. When I began to let love in, unconditionally and without attachment, I could finally see the fear-based love patterns I had been living with.
The Healing Power of Unconditional Love
Somatic coaching allowed me to break down my emotional walls and start letting people in. I now understand that love doesn’t need to be controlled. The only thing I control is myself and how I choose to express my presence. Shielding myself from hurt only closed me off from love and connection.

Bringing Somatic Healing to My Clients
This journey has inspired me to integrate somatic and energy work into my transformational coaching practice. True healing happens when we connect mind, body, and spirit. As a coach with a nursing background, witnessing the profound healing in my clients is deeply fulfilling.
