My first hospice client changed everything I thought I knew about chakras.

Three days before she passed, I was surprised to find her chakras brimming with color—vivid, bright, and fully alive. I expected the opposite. When I checked her body systems, they had indeed begun shutting down. Yet, her chakras were flourishing.

Why?

Her son had asked me to support her peace, comfort, and ease of transition. So, instead of strengthening her declining systems, I worked with her chakra anatomy to facilitate their natural end-of-life processes. I watched, and I learned.

When I later witnessed this same energetic pattern in other hospice clients, I realized something profound: As the body begins to let go, the chakras begin to prepare.

Chakras Are the Rainbow Bridge

As death nears, the chakra system shifts from supplying life-giving energy to the body to preparing for the Soul’s departure. The chakras form a kind of energetic bridge between worlds.

My client’s chakras—with all the beautiful colors they held: brilliant reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues, indigos, and purples—were becoming the rainbow-like bridge she would cross. They would ease her passage and help her establish a healthy light body in the next world.

Most people think of a chakra as only its forward-facing vortex. But that’s just one part of a much larger anatomy. Each body chakra actually has eight components, and at the end of life, every one of them participates in the graceful unwinding of physical existence.

What Happens to the Other Chakra Structures at Death?

As the body prepares for death, a remarkably orderly sequence unfolds within healthy chakra anatomy.

First, the reservoirs located behind each chakra begin to empty. Normally, they store energy for what the body will need the next day — and when there is no longer a “tomorrow” to prepare for, storage becomes unnecessary.

Next, the structures that send excess energy into those reservoirs shut down, having completed their role.

Meanwhile, the chakra intelligence centers, located deep within the body, shift their focus. Instead of distributing life energy throughout the body, they redirect it straight into the chakra vortexes to prepare for the Soul’s departure.

As this redirection continues, the aura’s natural rotation — the dynamo that supports embodiment — slows and eventually stops. This preserves the full color spectrums within the chakra vortexes, rather than sending them to the body to sustain physical life.

Finally, the central chakra channel narrows because it’s no longer required to circulate life-energy through the body. At the moment of death, it collapses entirely. The intelligence centers turn off like a light switch.

What remains active are the chakra vortexes themselves, now serving a very different purpose.

Departure: The Chakras Lead the Way

At the moment of death, the Soul follows the concentration of light and color held within the chakra vortexes. These vortexes detach from their physical anchors and continue functioning as a protective envelope for the Soul as it transitions into higher realms.

They become the energetic vessel that carries us home.

While we cannot take our belongings with us, we do carry the spectrums each chakra holds — the unique blend of color rays shaped by a lifetime of experiences, lessons, challenges, and choices.

Between lifetimes, some extremes of color excess and deficiency are gently healed, and certain limiting and destructive patterns and habits are released. Yet the essential character of each chakra’s spectrums remains.

This continuity explains why people may carry certain talents into their next lifetime, instantly recognize familiar Souls, and experience past-life memories.

In the End

In my hospice sessions, when chakras bloom with color instead of fading, it reassures me that life does not quietly disappear into nothingness.

When death arrives, it is not the end. It is a release. The forward-facing chakras — those brilliant star-like gateways — loosen their hold on the body and lift the essence of our being into the light that awaits.

Our experiences and life lessons aren’t lost. The color spectrums imprinted in the chakra vortexes not only lead us forward, but they also retain all the wisdom, love, and growth gathered throughout a lifetime.

And so, death is not the dissolution of who we are. It is the honoring of all we have ever been — carried forward in color, consciousness, and continuity of spirit.

A few days after the session, my client’s son contacted me to say his mother had passed peacefully. He was grateful for the session; it had relaxed her and left her feeling at ease.

I felt deeply grateful, too—and was left with a renewed understanding of the profound role the chakras play not only in our health, but at every stage of our journey.

Isabelle Morton, founder of the Gemstone Therapy Institute, pioneered modern Diamond and Gemstone Therapy in the late 1980s, when she was entrusted with rare knowledge about the healing properties of Diamond—the master crystal. She became the first to reliably identify which Diamonds carry the seven–color ray spectrum capable of awakening the body’s deepest blueprint for healing. This opened an entirely new field of gemstone healing rooted in precision, ethics, and the living intelligence of light. She is the author of several books, including Accepting Destiny, the true account of her heart transplant, near-death experience, and the origins of her work. Blending decades of experience with her own extraordinary healing journey, Isabelle helps people find clarity, confidence, and connection with their highest inner wisdom.
