Sometimes in life, we reach a point where something shifts. It doesn’t always look dramatic from the outside, but inside, it’s undeniable. We start to feel it: this isn’t enough. There’s a pull. A quiet ache for more. Not more stuff, more status, or more approval, but more truth. More alignment. More life.

We begin to realise we could be more, should be more, but we don’t know how to break the rhythm we’ve been living in.

It’s like growing up in a small country town. You know there’s nothing there to let you expand. You crave the bigger world, the wider sky, the kind of growth that your environment can’t offer. But you don’t yet know how to leave. So, for now, you stay, and while you stay, you adapt. You play the part. You follow the rules, even if they don’t fit. Not out of weakness, but because that’s what you were taught, what they were taught, and what those before them were taught.

That’s how it happens. You don’t leave your truth all at once; you slowly walk away from it. Through tradition. Through trauma. Through well-meaning expectations that were never yours to fulfill. And for a long time, you might not even notice the weight you’ve taken on. You build a life on top of it. You smile through it. You forget there’s even a “you” underneath it all.

But then something shifts again. Not dramatically. Quietly. You begin to remember. Who you were before the performance. What you knew before you were trained to doubt yourself. The voice that still whispers under all the noise.

It’s like that moment in the country town, when you realise, suddenly and completely,
“This is not where I’m meant to stay.” You pack a bag. You buy a train ticket and you go, but not everyone wants you to. Because when you leave, you disrupt the order. You become the one who says, “This life isn’t enough,” while everyone else is still trying to convince themselves that it is.

The people who once felt like kin don’t recognise this version of you. They see your leaving as rejection. As arrogance. As betrayal. They don’t say, “Go and grow.” They say, “Who do you think you are?” And the truth is, you’re not entirely sure yet. But you know who you’re not, and that’s what gives you the courage to walk.

This is the beginning of the homecoming.

Michelle Wollaston - Awakened Magazine

Not a return to the past, but a return to your soul’s truth. And in that return, you begin to shed the projections, the labels, the expectations. You’re no longer willing to be known only in the ways that kept others comfortable. You’re ready to be seen as you are, not as they imagined you.

That’s when real kinship begins to form, not with the past, but with the deeper parts of yourself. With your soul. With your guides. With the future you’ve just begun to trust.

And when you come home to that? Everything changes.

Not because you force it,  but because you can’t unknow what’s been revealed. The roles no longer fit. The dynamics stretch thin. You begin to realise that being your whole self may cost you the comfort of being understood.

But you also realise: You don’t need to be understood to be free. You just need to be true. And in that truth, you permit yourself to be fully seen. Not as the role you played.
Not as the version others were comfortable with. But as the person you were always meant to be.

It’s safe now to be seen and known in your wholeness. Not just as the child, the partner, the parent, the employee, but as the soul underneath it all.

That’s the homecoming.

Not to the life you were handed, but to the remembering of who you came here to be,
before the noise, before the roles, before the forgetting.
