Do you sometimes feel cut off and isolated? We lead such busy lives. It can be hard to stop, take a breath, and spend quality time with other people.

When you do have some free time, do you have a favourite café you love to visit? What is it about the café that you enjoy so much?

There are many great cafés where the staff take the time to get to know you. If you visit regularly, they might ask if you’d like your usual drink. This kind of positive attention helps you feel welcome, don’t you think?

In a friendly, welcoming café, you feel comfortable sitting by yourself, or you might find yourself chatting with other visitors. Before you know it, you’ve made some new friends.

Humans need social connections. Spending time with people who care about us is good for our well-being. It can be lovely to spend time alone sometimes, but feeling lonely and isolated isn’t good for us.

Here are a couple of ways to help you feel more connected:

  1. Make time to reconnect with people you know, even if you’ve lost touch.
Life is so busy. We keep meaning to contact the people we care about, but it’s easy to put it off. Before we know it, time has passed, and we might feel it’s been too long. Consider sending a friend a kind message asking how they are — chances are, they’ll be glad to hear from you.
  2. Pluck up the courage to join local or online groups where members share your interests.
It can be scary to make the first move, but if you’re willing to join in, people are usually very welcoming and will help you feel included. This is exactly why I started Cathy’s Wellbeing Club: to help people experience a true sense of community.

By finding others who share our value for connection and community, we can help make the world a kinder, fairer place. When we cooperate and collaborate, we can achieve great things. When people truly listen to one another, communication flows. Coaching helps us find solutions to our challenges. Creativity helps us express ourselves and share our gifts with the world. Being compassionate helps us support one another and cheer each other on. And celebrating even small successes gives us the motivation we all need to keep going.

TAKE ACTION: Join Cathy’s Wellbeing Club with a mission to establish a true sense of Community through the seven Cs of Collaboration, Cooperation, Communication, Coaching, Creativity, Compassion, and Celebration. Each month, the club focuses on one of the seven Cs to create collaborative books as a way to highlight the importance of working together to create a better world. Check out the first book, Let’s Celebrate Our Days In Hundreds of Ways! available on Amazon.
