What if the very thing you are searching for is already trying to find you? What if the life you long for is not being withheld, but only waiting for you to trust it into being? Embracing mystery is not weakness or blind faith. It is the courage to let go of fear, to release control, and to allow life to reveal its deeper intelligence. Without embracing mystery, we remain in a prison of vigilance. With trust, we step into freedom. Yogic philosophy says that we should always be a little confused about the mysteries of the Universe, because that confusion keeps us seeking. Open. Curious. As much as the egoic mind wants to “know” everything, mystery is what makes us feel most alive.

Trust, more than anything else, is my number one life hack. It’s the foundation that allows me to exist in states of peace and well-being. The Higher Self only sees our human experiences through the lens of opportunity. No matter what happens, it perceives the opportunity for evolution within that experience. With this awareness, we can befriend the unknown. Set down our anxiety. Trust the process. Life offers us a simple choice: either we trust that everything happens for a reason, or we don’t. If you believe that everything does happen for a reason, you’re already on your way to embracing mystery. We don’t always know what the reason is, but if we cultivate a capacity to harmoniously coexist with mystery, life will eventually reveal everything we need to know.

In the years following my spiritual awakening, my life was essentially obliterated so it could be completely restructured. It was a good life, the way it was, but it was no longer aligned with my divine becoming. I felt like I was on a roller coaster on a daily basis. Everything that was familiar and safe was taken from me, yet my inner authority was wise enough to surrender to the mystery of all that was unfolding. Now, when I see people resisting change, I can recognize the lack of trust – and when I see people leaning into the mystery of it all, I recognize the wisdom of trust at work. I hope you will do the latter.

A Faculty of the Heart

I once heard someone say that humans aren’t actually afraid of the unknown; they’re just afraid of something “bad” happening. If only mystery would give us a guarantee that its contents were going to delight us, we’d have no problem with it at all! This is where the opportunity to choose love over fear frees us from the cages of our comfort zones. As love takes root in our lives and our conscious awakening deepens, we naturally feel a stronger connection to Divine Intelligence. Sometimes it’s necessary to intentionally embody that connection in such a way that it can resource the temporal self – this animal body that is wired for survival. Every time you feel a little closer to Source, ask it to hold you in a way that you can feel its safety enveloping you. If you’re experiencing anxiety – the form of stress that’s based on the future and our fear that something bad is going to happen – try viewing your situation through the lens of love. What does love whisper just beneath the intrusive voice of fear?

Trust Frees Our Energy

Trust is a liberator. It frees us from the exhausting vigilance of trying to avoid negative experiences. All that reclaimed energy can instead be poured into creating a magnificent life. Without trust, we live in a posture of “avoiding the unwanted.” With trust, we shift into “moving toward our desires.” This shift reflects a deep knowing that life is not merely a game of dodging obstacles, but an invitation into richness and expansion.

As we ascend out of the fear matrix, trust arises naturally. Scarcity dissolves. Peace prevails. One way to measure our trust in the Universe is by examining our need to control. Control is born of fear and insecurity. It’s a subtle grasping against life, a resistance to the mystery. As trust builds, control softens, and with that softening comes liberation.

Asphaleia: Spiritual Certainty

When I visited Crete, I encountered two Greek oracles who introduced me to the word asphaleia — spiritual certainty. This certainty is not naïve optimism; it is a deep anchoring in divine order that sustains us in moments of shock or challenge.

If we can cultivate asphaleia, suffering dissolves. We no longer allow our minds to assume that something is terribly wrong just because it didn’t go the way we hoped. We gain mental and emotional sobriety, allowing us to respond to life intelligently instead of reactively. In difficulty, you might poke into the consciousness of mystery by asking yourself:

  • How might this experience serve me in the long run?
  • Can I access my sense of certainty in Divine Intelligence even though I don’t have all the answers?
  • What inner resources might I discover in meeting this challenge?

One of my favorite affirmations in difficult times is: “I am equal to my circumstances.” This simple phrase restores presence and dissolves overwhelm. From there, it’s much easier to regulate your nervous system so that your physiology is in a state of openness to the mystery of what’s taking place. When the body enters survival mode, curiosity about mysteries is eliminated to save resources. Creating safety for your nervous system is imperative to embracing mystery.

Building Self-Trust

Like everything else, trust is an inside job that begins within. Self-trust grows when we make commitments to ourselves and keep them. Yet many of us have a history of self-abandonment: putting others ahead of ourselves, prioritizing work over well-being, chasing achievement before self-care. Each act of self-abandonment fractures inner trust.

Rebuilding it is like repairing any relationship: consistent presence, care, and devotion. It’s about treating yourself as someone worthy of your own time and energy.

This same principle applies to our relationships with spirit guides and the Universe. When we show up in sacred space — through meditation, community, and guidance — we deepen mutual trust. We affirm: I can trust the Divine, and the Divine can trust me. I embrace the mysteries at work in my life.

Trust carries us into profound paradoxes:

  • It invites us to lean into the unseen before proof arrives. In doing so, we become co-creators rather than mere reactors.
  • It reshapes time itself, slowing us down into divine timing where synchronicities multiply.
  • It becomes the bridge between surrender and empowerment. Surrender without trust feels like collapse; empowerment without trust feels like control. Together, through trust, they merge into graceful alignment.
  • Perhaps most beautifully, trust reveals love. Beneath all fear and striving, life is rooted in love. Trust allows us to fall back into that current.

When we are operating from our primal survival instincts, mystery is the enemy. Vigilance dominates, and you chase information in desperate attempts to feel safe. You feel the need to prove yourself. When we operate from our awakened state, we breathe into the mysteries of the Universe with a sense of wonder. We know that the Truth always proves itself. This distinction is how our relationship with mystery becomes a marker for our spiritual maturity.

Trust in the mystery is not passive. It is not blind. It is an active alignment with the deeper intelligence of life. It is a daily choice to open, to soften, to allow, and to believe that the Universe is ultimately conspiring in our favor. When we choose trust, peace follows.
