As a Reiki healer based in the Washington, DC area, I feel the pressure of election season as much as anyone—being surrounded by the buzz of politics amplifies the tension in the air. But here’s the thing: whether it’s election anxiety, holiday stress, or even uncertainty in your personal life, the underlying cause is often the same—the fear of the unknown.
Many of my clients come to me feeling stuck, weighed down by the need to control almost every aspect of their lives. They’re constantly in “doer” mode—trying to push, pull, and force their desires into reality. But what if I told you that by simply letting go, grounding yourself, and trusting the Universe, you could not only navigate these stressful times more easily but also allow abundance and blessings to flow effortlessly into your life?
Yes, you heard me right—effortlessly.
Let’s take a look into how this works, especially during the highly charged end of the year, from political uncertainty to holiday pressures.

The Power of Letting Go in Times of Uncertainty
We live in a world that praises control. We plan every detail, organize every minute of our days, and hold on tight to the belief that our efforts alone will create the life we want. But in times of uncertainty, control can actually block the flow of abundance. When you hold on too tightly, your energy becomes restricted, creating a sense of overwhelm and stress.
Letting go isn’t about being passive or giving up. It’s about releasing the need to micromanage everything and instead trusting that the Universe has a plan. When you surrender to the flow, you allow space for abundance to enter in ways you couldn’t have planned, predicted, or even imagined!
Here in DC, where political tension can feel thick like the late summer humidity, learning to release control and stay grounded is more crucial than ever.

Grounding Through Fear: Practical Tips to Stay Centered
The fear of the unknown, whether it’s tied to election outcomes or holiday pressures, can make us feel scattered and anxious. But staying grounded is key to managing that fear and maintaining inner peace.
Here are four practical tips to help you stay grounded and aligned with abundance as we move through this season:
- Start Your Morning With a Kundalini Ritual.
Start your day with a three-minute grounding practice that activates your energy and helps you feel centered. One Kundalini exercise I love is called “Ego Eradicator”—it involves powerful breathwork and arm movements to clear your mind and balance your energy.
How to do it:
- Sit cross-legged with your arms out like a Y above your head. Curl your fingers into your palms, leaving your thumbs extended upward.
- Begin Breath of Fire(short, powerful exhales through the nose, equal inhale-exhale) for 1-3 minutes.
- Close your eyes and focus on your third eye (space between the eyebrows).
- After 3 minutes, inhale deeply, hold your breath, and stretch your arms upward. Exhale and relax. This practice clears mental clutter and sets the tone for the day, helping you navigate everything from election news to holiday stress with a calm, clear mind.

- Practice Holiday Minimalism.
During the holidays, it’s easy to get caught up in the pressure to do all the things—gift shopping, elaborate decorations, perfect parties…sound familiar? If so, remember, you don’t have to do everything to create meaningful memories. Practicing minimalism around the holidays can reduce overwhelm and help you stay centered.
How to apply it:
- Focus on what truly matters to you. Maybe that’s one heartfelt tradition instead of several stressful ones.
- Delegate or simplify where possible. For example, host a potluck instead of cooking the entire holiday meal yourself.
- Declutter your schedule and allow for downtime to recharge.By minimizing the excess, you create more space for joy and connection without draining your energy.

- Use Breathwork to Shift Your Energy Instantly.
4-4-4 Breath (also known as Box Breathing) is one of the easiest and most effective ways to calm your nervous system. Whenever you feel stressed about the holidays, the election outcome, or just the unknowns of life, pause and take a few minutes to breathe deeply.
How to practice it:- Sit or stand comfortably.
- Inhale deeply through your nose for a count of 4, letting your belly expand, then your chest.
- Hold your breath for a count of 4.
- Exhale slowly and fully through your mouth for a count of 4.
- Repeat this cycle 5-10 times, focusing on the sensation of your breath to bring you back to the present moment. This technique helps regulate your nervous system, calm anxiety, and increase clarity, making it perfect for navigating holiday gatherings or election stress. It’s easy to practice too: in the car during traffic, in line at the grocery store, or even while waiting for a Zoom meeting to start. The beauty of this technique is its versatility—you can use it anytime, anywhere, to quickly reset and center yourself. Just a few minutes of mindful breathing can shift your energy, helping you stay calm, present, and grounded.

- Ground Yourself with Nature
Reconnecting with nature can be incredibly grounding and nourishing for your energy. When you step outside and immerse yourself in the natural world, you’re not just taking a break—you’re tapping into the Earth’s energy to recharge your own energetic field. By grounding in nature, you give yourself the gift of calm and peace.
How to apply it:- Take a daily walk, even if it’s just 10 minutes outside, to breathe in fresh air and clear your mind. (If possible, leave your phone behind.)
- If you can, immerse yourself in natural environments—whether it’s a forest, park, or by the water. Nature has a calming effect that helps balance your energy. Even better, connect to the earth barefoot!
- Bring natural elements into your home—such as pine branches or a simple plant on your desk—as reminders to stay grounded and connected to the Earth.
Keeping Your Energy in Check Through the Holiday Season
With Thanksgiving, Holiday celebrations, and the New Year just around the corner, it’s easy to let stress and anxiety take over. Between family dynamics, packed schedules, and the pressure to make everything picture-perfect, your energy can quickly become depleted. So how can you maintain balance during this hectic time? Practice the tips above and pause to ask yourself, how is my energy?
Here are two holiday-specific tips to keep your energy in check:
- Set Energetic Boundaries
It’s important to protect your energy, especially during family gatherings. Before engaging in holiday events, set the intention to stay grounded and not absorb others’ stress or drama. A simple technique is to imagine yourself surrounded by a golden light, protecting your energy field from negativity or draining interactions. - Create a Holiday Mantra for Stress Relief
Before you dive into the holiday madness, create a mantra to help you stay calm and aligned.Something like, “I am present, I am peaceful, I am open to joy.” Repeat this mantra to yourself whenever you start to feel overwhelmed by holiday pressures.
When Abundance and Gifts Start to Flow into Your Life
One of the most fulfilling parts of my work is witnessing the transformation that happens when my clients let go and trust the process. As they release the need for control, align their energy, and embrace grounding practices, something remarkable takes place—abundance and gifts, both seen and unseen, begin to flow effortlessly into their lives, as if everything they’ve been seeking finally falls into place.
It’s as though the floodgates open, and all the hard work they’ve put in starts to yield its gifts. New opportunities emerge, relationships deepen, and financial blessings appear. The Universe was simply waiting for them to step aside and allow it all to flow.
Final Thoughts: Surrender & Trust the Process
As we move through election season and into the holidays, remember this: life is unpredictable, and we can’t control everything—especially not the political outcomes or family dynamics. But we can control how we respond to these uncertainties. By grounding yourself daily, using the power of breathwork and mantras, and setting clear energetic boundaries, you’ll be better equipped to navigate this season with grace and ease.
Let go, trust the Universe, and watch as abundance flows into your life—effortlessly.
Wishing you peace, joy, and a heart full of gratitude as you embrace the holiday season. May these techniques guide you towards a more serene and abundant life, allowing you to fully enjoy the magic that this time of year can bring.
