As we take the time to celebrate the mothers of the world, let’s also celebrate them as healers. Whether you are a new mom, an experienced mom, what I like to call a pseudo mom, or a bonus mom, you are important and needed.
As a mom myself, I truly feel like being a healer is also a superpower. Being able to birth a child is a superpower, and being able to love a child is a superpower. Even if you didn’t physically give birth to that child, the love is no less.

As we look back over sleepless nights, adapting our minds and bodies and lifestyles to fit a tiny human into that mix of this mundane world, being able to escape the walls and the stress of the outside forces, and focusing on this tiny human or tiny humans that you love, care for, and nurture. Knowing that you have been able to participate in the growth of someone’s emotional intelligence, confidence, fearlessness, and divine instinct truly is a gift in itself, and these are not things to be taken lately as literally, the world watches you.
I want to give a personal thank you to every label of mother there is. I say every label of mother, because I want to break down pseudo mom as well as bonus mom.
If you work in healthcare, childcare, or education—any role involving the care and guidance of children—and you extend your love, grace, and nurturing spirit to them, whether or not you have children of your own, you are what I consider a pseudo mom. Your role in supporting and shaping young lives is deeply meaningful, and you deserve to be honored, too.
If your partner has children whom you’ve embraced and loved as your own, you are a bonus mom. If your best friend has kids and you step in with care, even as “Auntie,” you become an important figure in their lives—someone they can look up to, turn to, and feel safe with. That love makes you a bonus mom, too.
Many people always highlight the beauty in motherhood and only the positives, but let’s be honest. Sometimes motherhood can be overwhelming. It can be stressful. It can drive you to tears. It can make you mean and require support from others.
It’s truly the best feeling in the world, but that’s not always the case.
Sometimes you don’t have support, and sometimes it gets hard. Sometimes you still have sleepless nights, even if your children are older, due to the stress of the world. Children become more and more expensive as they get older, and again, if you don’t have support, this can be very heart-wrenching.
I want to honor not just your triumphs as mothers, but also your struggles—the moments society often overlooks or tries to hide. Whether you’ve faced fear, stress, postpartum challenges, or the weight of imposter syndrome, please know you’re not alone. We’ve all walked those roads in some form. My hope is to offer support through every stage of motherhood, to help you find peace in the process, and to embrace the beauty and wisdom that this journey reveals.
