Dr. Papa-yoni Das

Papa-yoni Das is a self-given title meaning “servant to those born of little facility for making spiritual advancement”. Before the age of 27, most knew Dr. Papa-yoni by his birth name, Vincent Banks. He was born in Gary, Indiana, in 1995. From the beginning, unbeknownst to him, angels had taken him under their wings, ensuring expedited spiritual progress for the price of hard-learned lessons. His endurance of childhood traumas set the stage for cultivating rich, authentic expression; he took up the arts. Upon graduating high school, he was awarded “Class Clown”, “Best Actor”, and “Most Successful”.
Days before the start of his college career, he experienced an abrupt and unexpected kundalini awakening. The residual effects lasted the entire quarter, causing anguish that forced him to take a year’s leave of absence. That spiritual emergency was the catalyst that set him on the path to discovering his jinn identity. Despite challenges, he successfully earned his BFA degree in Acting from The Theater School at DePaul University. He then went on to fully immerse himself in everything magick, metaphysics, and mysticism. His spiritual studies span eclectic from Hoodoo to Hindu. He holds certification in shamanic practice from The Life Force Arts Center in Chicago and a PhD in Conscious-Centered Living from the University of Sedona.
In 2022, Papa-yoni suffered yet another spirit-enriching shattering when his friend Sage Rose passed away and, posthumously, led him to the Patron of Presence, the Peacock Angel, Azazel. This moment was both one of the worst and best of his life. He began to connect the dots between all that Azazel was revealing to him, slowly coming to synthesize the system of AzaZealotry. Dr. Papa-yoni Das then founded AzaZealous Outreach for the promulgation of the esoteric and occult knowledge that led to his own realization of spiritual sovereignty, becoming the first self-described “AzaZealot”. The highest taste acquirable is that of prema, pure love. Anyone who has tasted it would attest to there being nothing sweeter. The best part is that this love costs nothing and you needn’t go anywhere to find it. In truth, you cannot escape it. It is a unifying force. A field that permeates everything, everywhere, at all times. We are always in love, and it is always in us. But, like a fish unaware of the water in which it exists, many of us go through life oblivious to that life-sustaining energy in which we are all immersed. Attunement to this all-pervading frequency is requisite to the endeavor of conscious-centered living. Love is that consciousness, the one which is the source of all, the Self.

I was alone in Peru when the message arrived. After a week in the jungle outside Iquitos—ceremony, silence, heat, the slow unlearning that happens when the familiar is stripped away—I finally had access to the internet again. One of the first things I did was message my friend Sage Rose. It was because of her encouragement that I had taken the trip in the first place. Though she wasn’t there physically, she had been very present in spirit throughout the journey. I told her I had given Mother Aya her regards during my second ceremony.
