I can’t sleep. I’m tossing and turning in bed. My mind is spinning, keeping me awake.

I’m angry that my thoughts won’t shut off. I’ve tried everything—

    • Meditation
    • Natural supplements
    • Strange strategies from late-night internet searches

I don’t want to rely on drugs.
I don’t want to get up.
I just want my mind to turn off and let me rest in peace.

My heart is pounding in fear.
I can’t breathe.
Panic is rising, unstoppable.

So, I start cleaning my closets, organizing drawers, scrubbing surfaces—compulsively doing chores until the anxiety subsides.

It’s 6 PM on a Sunday. The weekend is over, and I’m beating myself up.
I should have made those calls.
I should have worked out, eaten the healthy food I prepared.
I should have walked on the beach, invited friends over.

Instead, I binge-watched Netflix, ate Taco Bell, and drank vodka—the entire weekend.

What a waste.
What’s wrong with me?
Why do I procrastinate so much?

“My kids don’t care about me,” I say to myself. “I wasn’t a good mom.”

It’s Mother’s Day, and once again, neither of them has acknowledged me—not even a call.

I know it’s my fault.
I worked too much.
I was commanding and controlling.

“What kind of mother is too busy for her children?”

My heart sinks deeper.
“I am not worthy of love”.
And so begins the familiar downward spiral of grief, self-loathing & shame.

Suddenly, a quiet voice within me whispers:
“Love is the antidote, even when you believe you’re not worthy.”

I feel the warmth of Divine presence calm my aching heart.
“Give yourself some Grace,” the voice continues.
“You were doing your best.
Everything you ‘did’ was for them.
Your intentions were pure.”

“Breathe. Find your inner light.  It’s always there, even when you think it’s gone.”

Tears well up.
For the first time, I feel something small but undeniable—a spark of hope.
The spark grows into a warmth that fills my chest.

What if my past mistakes weren’t proof of my unworthiness, but stepping stones to the expanded love and wisdom I carry now?

Reframing Fear

How to Break Free from Emotional Spirals

There is a spiritual principle that says, All there is, is love or fear.

Love creates expansive spirals of empowerment.
Fear contracts, pulling us into spirals of doubt and disempowerment.

    • Fear feeds unworthiness and keeps us unresourceful.
    • Love brings wisdom, empowerment and connection.   Love shows us that fear is an outdated defense mechanism, no longer useful or needed.

Fear manifests in many forms:

    • A mind that won’t stop spinning.
    • Sudden, overwhelming panic attacks.
    • Uncontrollable rage, unleashed at family, customer service reps, reckless drivers.
    • Addictive binge patterns—Netflix, food, cleaning, shopping, substances—anything to avoid feeling fear.
    • Guilt over making “unforgivable” mistakes.

Most people try to avoid pain and fear. But have you heard these phrases?

“Everything you want is on the other side of fear.”
“Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real.”
“Feel the fear and do it anyway.”

Fear doesn’t mean stop.
Fear means you’ve found your edge—it’s an opportunity to choose love and evolve beyond it.

Fear is a signal from your subconscious:
“Alert. Pay attention. Time to assess, heal, let go, and evolve.”

But HOW do you choose love over fear, especially when it’s completely overwhelming?

The Answer is Easier Than You Think.

When overwhelmed by fear, you can begin your journey back to love with this simple heart-opening breathwork journey, followed by Byron Katie’s Four Questions.

Don’t let the simplicity of this practice fool you—its super powerful.

You will need to focus and use your willpower to stay steadfast, but with time and commitment, you can transform any fear into love and self empowerment.

Heart-Opening Breathwork Journey

  1. Drop your attention into your heart space.  Close your eyes and ask your Divine Source for assistance to open and expand the feelings in your heart. Imagine the air around you is a sea of energy, a sea of life force energy containing love and light.
  2. Breathe this “energy”  from all directions around you into your heart for a count of 5.
  3. Hold your breath for a count of 5 – listen for the sound and feel for the warmth of your heart beat,
  4. Exhale for a count of 5
  5. Hold the exhale for a count of 5.

Repeat this breathing pattern in and out of your heart for 5- 20 minutes.  Even if you can’t feel your heart beat right now, with time and practice, you will.

Not only that, you’ll connect with the most loving, peaceful and joyful part of your being called, “Your Inner Light”, or “Inner Glow”.

For best results, I suggest making this an everyday self care habit.

When you feel calm and centered enough, then, proceed with Byron Katie’s Four Questions:

  1. Is this true?
Am I in physical danger? Is this a real threat, or is it just emotional fear?
Is this fear mine, or does it belong to someone else
  2. Can I absolutely know that this is true?
Just because it feels real doesn’t mean it’s true.
  3. How do I react when I believe this thought or fear?
Does it make me stronger or weaker?
  4. Who would I be without this thought or fear?
What would be possible and what would my life look like if I let go of this fear?

As you explore this heart-opening breathwork and Byron Katie’s Four Questions, I invite you to notice what shifts within you.

Did fear soften?

Did a sense of peace or clarity emerge?

It’s late in the afternoon, Mother’s Day—a year later.
We’re back from brunch.
My gifts have been opened.

Both of my sons have been with me all day.
They are standing around me smiling, hugging and saying, “Thank you for being my mom,” with their big, happy hearts.

Tears of joy stream down my face.
I know they finally feel loved by me, and that is all that matters.

Thank God I faced my fears.
Thank God I did the inner work.
Thank God I chose to love, to forgive, and to let go.

Thank God I am free.
