What does it truly mean to be free?

Most of us immediately think about the freedoms we experience in our daily lives—the freedom to make our own choices, express our beliefs, pursue our dreams, and create a life that reflects who we are. Yet even with those freedoms, many people quietly carry an inner weight that limits how fully they experience life.

Perhaps you’ve felt it yourself.

You know there is something more within you, yet fear whispers that you are not enough. Old wounds continue to shape your decisions. Past experiences influence your present. The expectations of others become louder than the wisdom of your own heart.

This is where the journey of spiritual freedom begins. In my experience, spiritual freedom has very little to do with changing the world around us. It has everything to do with remembering the truth of who we are beneath everything life has placed upon us.

For many years, I believed spiritual growth meant becoming someone better, a higher version, more awakened, more evolved, more enlightened. Eventually, I realized I had been looking in the wrong direction because the journey was never about becoming someone new. It has always been about remembering who I have always been.

I believe every one of us enters this life carrying a unique Divine Blueprint. Before fear, disappointment, trauma, or the opinions of others shaped our identity, we already possessed the essence of who we were created to be. I believe it so strongly that I have developed course after course about it.

Our light was never lost. It simply became covered with yet another veil. Along the way, we developed beliefs, protective patterns, and emotional defenses that helped us survive difficult experiences. Those patterns served an important purpose. They protected us when we needed protection. But survival is not the same as freedom. Healing begins when we lovingly recognize that those protective layers are no longer our identity. This realization allows us to break free and step into that which we already are.

The Permissions

Within the Institute of Living Light Archives™, I teach that spiritual freedom unfolds one permission at a time. These are not simply affirmations or positive statements. They are conscious choices that invite us to release fear, reclaim our authentic nature, and embody the truth of who we have always been. Each permission opens another doorway to greater freedom and remembrance.

Permission to Belong: So many people spend their lives searching for a place where they finally feel accepted. Yet true belonging does not begin when others accept us—it begins when we stop abandoning ourselves. This permission invites us to recognize that we have always belonged. We belong to Life. We belong to the Divine. We belong exactly as we are, without having to earn our place through achievement, perfection, or approval.

Permission to Feel: Emotions are not obstacles to our spiritual growth; they are messengers inviting us into deeper awareness. This permission encourages us to experience our emotions without judgment or suppression. Joy, grief, fear, love, disappointment, and hope all carry wisdom. When we allow ourselves to feel fully, we also allow ourselves to heal more completely.

Permission to Heal: Healing is not about becoming someone different. It is about returning to the wholeness that has always existed beneath our wounds. This permission asks us to release the belief that we are broken and to trust that every experience, no matter how difficult, can become a pathway toward greater wisdom, compassion, and self-understanding.

Permission to Speak Our Truth: Finding our authentic voice requires courage. Many people learned to remain silent in order to avoid conflict, rejection, or disappointment. This permission invites us to express ourselves honestly, kindly, and with integrity. Speaking our truth is not about convincing others; it is about honoring our own soul with authenticity.

Permission to Love Without Losing Ourselves: Love was never meant to require self-abandonment. Healthy love allows us to care deeply for others while remaining deeply connected to ourselves. This permission reminds us that compassion and healthy boundaries can coexist. We are free to love wholeheartedly without sacrificing our own well-being, identity, or inner peace.

Permission to Receive: Many people find it easier to give than to receive. Yet receiving is one of the most profound acts of trust. This permission opens us to accepting love, kindness, support, abundance, and grace without guilt or the belief that we must first earn them. Life is designed to flow in both directions. Giving and receiving are equally sacred.

Permission to Trust: Trust begins within. It is the willingness to believe that even when we cannot see the entire path before us, life continues unfolding with purpose. This permission encourages us to trust our intuition, honor our inner knowing, and recognize that our soul often understands long before our mind does.

Permission to Create: Creation is one of the purest expressions of the Divine moving through us. Whether we create art, music, businesses, relationships, healing, or simply a meaningful life, we participate in the continual unfolding of creation itself. This permission reminds us that our gifts are not accidents—they are invitations waiting to be expressed.

Permission to Embody Our Purpose: Purpose is not something we discover somewhere outside ourselves. It is something we gradually reveal by becoming more fully who we already are. This permission invites us to stop chasing significance and begin living authentically. As we align with our values, gifts, and deepest truth, our purpose naturally reveals itself through the way we live and serve.

Permission to Surrender: Surrender is often misunderstood as giving up. In reality, surrender is an act of profound trust. It is releasing the need to control every outcome while remaining fully engaged in the journey. This permission teaches us that peace often arrives not when we hold on more tightly, but when we loosen our grip and allow Divine wisdom to guide the next step.

Permission to Remember: Every permission ultimately leads here. Beneath every fear, every wound, every identity, and every life experience remains the eternal essence of your soul. This final permission is the invitation to remember that you have never been separate from the Divine, never separated from your worth, and never disconnected from your true nature. Spiritual freedom is not about becoming something greater. It is about remembering the greatness that has always lived within you.

At first glance, these may appear to be simple concepts, yet I have witnessed how profoundly they transform lives through the sessions I offer. Every permission loosens another thread of fear while strengthening our relationship with the truth of who we are. When this occurs, something remarkable begins to happen—we stop trying to become spiritual and begin living spiritually.

Instead of constantly searching outside ourselves, we begin trusting the wisdom that has quietly waited within us all along. Our relationships become healthier because we no longer seek our worth through pleasing others. Our nervous system begins to recognize safety instead of continually preparing for danger. We discover that strength does not require hardness, that love does not require self-sacrifice, and that receiving can be just as sacred as giving.

Life itself may not become easier, but we become different and therefore are able to respond with greater presence instead of fear. We choose compassion over judgment. We remain grounded even when life feels uncertain. Eventually, the question changes.

Instead of asking, “Who am I supposed to become?” we begin asking, “What can I release so that who I have always been may fully emerge?”

To me, that is the essence of spiritual freedom. It is the freedom to think clearly, love deeply, serve joyfully, receive graciously, and live authentically. It is the freedom to remain centered without closing your heart, even when life presents unexpected challenges.

Perhaps this is what so many people are searching for today. Not another philosophy or new technique. Not another list of rules to follow.

Perhaps what they are truly seeking is permission. Permission to be themselves. Permission to trust the wisdom of their own soul. Permission to remember that you are not here to become someone else. You are here to courageously become all that you have always been.

We are not becoming; we are stepping into that which we already are.
