This reflection shares the discovery that true healing and support for others come not from fixing or controlling outcomes, but from releasing attachment and lovingly allowing each person’s unique journey.

For most of my life, I believed being loving meant always being available. One summer evening, as I sat down to enjoy the sunset, a friend called in tears after a fight with their partner. I immediately canceled my plans and rushed over, feeling that my presence alone could fix their pain.

If someone was hurting, I felt it in my own body. If someone was sad, I wanted to lift them. If someone was angry, I wanted to calm them.

That instinct came from compassion, but also from attachment.

I didn’t see it then, but I was addicted to outcomes. I wanted to see people restored, lifted, transformed—and if they weren’t, I silently assumed I had failed.

It took years of my own healing journey to understand that attachment hides in even the purest intentions.

Early in my studies of energy work, I thought ‘holding space’ meant giving all of myself. In one of my first sessions, my client’s emotional pain overwhelmed me. I tried to be their calm, but finished the session drained myself. Looking back, I see now it was emotional overextension, not empathy.

Somewhere along the way, I realized I didn’t want to depend on someone else or something else for my healing, either. I wanted to remember how to listen to my own body, my own intuition. That inner guidance changed everything — and showed me what real freedom in healing looks like.

Healing isn’t about doing.

It’s about allowing.

Attachment to outcomes blocks energy flow. We may believe we’re helping but end up managing, often out of fear—fear of inadequacy if the outcome disappoints. We then give advice, wait to see it followed, or measure success by results, trapping ourselves in subtle guilt.

It’s human — and it’s heavy.

But there’s another way.

Letting go of attachment isn’t detaching from love; it’s loving without strings or control. It’s trusting another’s timing as much as your own, so they feel seen and free to walk their path.

I learned this the hard way—through exhaustion, heartbreak, and the gentle teachings of plant medicine. During one ceremony, I felt the strain of every energetic thread I gripped: clients, friends, family, lovers. Each strand tugged my heart until I realized I never needed to hold them. I just needed to love them—freely.

That night, I felt what I now call sacred allowing.

Sacred allowing says:

“I see you. I honor you. I trust your journey.”

No saving, no fixing, no pulling someone toward their light before they’re ready.

It’s the same way the universe holds us. It doesn’t interfere, but it never leaves. It stands steady — witnessing, guiding, loving, allowing.

When we release attachment, we also release the belief that healing must look a certain way.

Sometimes the lesson is in the staying; sometimes it’s in the unraveling.

Sometimes healing is silence, distance, or saying no.

It takes courage to let someone be exactly where they are — to resist the urge to soothe your own discomfort by trying to change theirs. But that’s where the deepest love lives.

Today, whether I’m in session with a client or sitting across from a friend, I remind myself: I can help, but I don’t have to. I can witness, but I don’t need to fix. To keep this intention alive in my day-to-day life, I have adopted a small ritual that serves as a reminder to release responsibility. Each day, I spend a quiet moment envisioning a small stone in my hand, imagining it as the weight of expectations. I breathe deeply, feel its solidity, and then set it down gently, symbolizing the release of any burdens that are not mine to carry. This simple act empowers me to embody the lesson of letting go beyond the seen.

Because when people are allowed to discover their own truth, that discovery carries a purity that no one else can give them.

Trust can be built on that foundation. Our systems can recalibrate naturally, without pressure or expectation. Healing can unfold in its own rhythm. Then people can remember that they are their own healer, sage, and strength.

To let go of attachment is to allow everyone to find their way home when it’s time. Imagine a dark forest path where lanterns appear, glowing with soft, inviting light. Every step forward reveals the journey, lighting the contours of their unique path and guiding them home with gentle assurance, even when the way seems uncertain.

It’s not withdrawal — it’s reverence. It’s being willing to hold uncomfortable containers for others while still staying true to yourself.

It’s the kind of love that doesn’t demand transformation, but invites it.

Sacred allowing.

Loving freely.

Witnessing with lightness.

That is the medicine: releasing attachment to outcomes allows both ourselves and others to genuinely heal and grow. Sacred allowing means loving presence without control, trusting each journey as it unfolds.

TAKE ACTION: If this reflection speaks to you, begin practicing sacred allowing in small, tangible ways: pause before offering advice, soften the impulse to fix, and let your presence be enough. Trust that every soul unfolds in its own time — including yours. Explore more of Sicadia-Paige’s work and teachings at her website.
