If someone is dealing with stress, anxiety, or worry in the midst of all that is going on in our world, what practical encouragement or advice would you give them?
Dr. Sue Morter: There are so many things, but as a foundational piece of work, what I love to do is get people into their body. When we live in our heads, we’re not as grounded, and we’re not as resourceful as we are when we are deeply connected to the internal source of knowing. One of the things I immediately invite people to do is start breathing more deeply in their body and to breathe slower. Lower and slower with the breath is very, very helpful.
It starts to bring our consciousness down into more of an alpha frequency, which allows us to connect with more of our true, eternal self. As we do this, we become less controlled by or affected by the outer environment and more connected to and tuned into the internal inspiration that is constantly trying to emerge up and out through us into the world.
I do a lot of physical things like that, using the body, the mind, and the breath to create a greater sense of certainty and a greater sense of self in terms of stability, regardless of what’s happening in the outer world. It’s about managing our internal environment, regardless of our external realm and circumstances.
Another part of this is inviting people to look at what’s happening that has a charge associated with it for them. I encourage them to see it as spiritual practice, as a way to enlighten or enliven parts of themselves that they were not exactly dialed into or integrated with prior to the circumstances they are facing in that moment.
The body speaks a language as well, helping us determine what the spiritual message is, what the higher purpose is, and what it’s trying to tell or show us. I have a whole system that allows people to recognize, through the language of the body, exactly what is in it for them.
I also invite them to look at their circumstances as if they are in support of something higher, perhaps beyond what we regularly notice. These situations call us to a higher version of ourselves in some sense, and beautifully so. Quantum science is encouraging us to look into life from that perspective.
Even when things are going well, it doesn’t have to be only when the going is tough for us to awaken. It’s about truly recognizing that all of life’s unfoldment is a reflection of what’s happening in our inner world. How we manage and respond to it shows how we’re building the circuitry for mastery.
What was it like growing up in a home with a renowned chiropractor and educator?

Dr. Sue Morter and her father Dr. M.T. Morter, Jr.
Dr. Sue Morter: It’s kind of interesting because, in our world, my dad was famous. He was the king. He knew everything, and people flew in from all over the world to study with him, ask for his perspectives, and learn his healing techniques and modalities. It didn’t leave a lot of space around. There was some breathing space in the corners of the room, but overall, it was a dualistic experience—which I suppose all of life is.
It was wonderful to be in an environment where so many answers were constantly flowing. There was a sense of certainty associated with that. Even if I didn’t know what was going on, someone in the room always did, and that was very comforting.
As I grew and developed, I realized I had my own inspirations and ideas. A new generation was moving into the mix. Finding the dance where my ideas could be embraced without becoming competitive, rejected, or rejecting was a great opportunity. It allowed me to build the skill of collaboration and figure out when to open up and share what I knew to be true.
Overall, I’d say it was challenging. We all come into this world and land where we do because it’s going to challenge us in certain ways. These were my challenges—the ones I would polish myself against. They allowed for a refinement of my purpose and helped me give myself permission to let my own contributions start emerging.
I had so much respect for my father’s work, position, and disposition. I wanted to honor that and not elbow my way in disrespectfully. It’s been quite a journey, indeed.

Can you share the story of your awakening to spirituality, consciousness, and mindfulness, and how that unfolded for you?
Dr. Sue Morter: Oh boy, did it. I was in this dance of trying to figure out what was mine to say and do, and how to honor my upbringing and the whole arena I was raised in. I started getting headaches.
I had gone to school, opened my own clinic, and had patients who were getting great results. Yet, I began developing migraine headaches so severe that I couldn’t get out of bed to go to work. When I did go to work, I could help other people with their migraine headaches, but I was suffering.
They were getting better while I was getting worse, so I began listening to what I was saying to them in the treatment room. One thing I kept saying was, “Meditation can be very helpful for reducing stress and moving the energy in your body differently.”
The interesting thing was, I wasn’t a meditator, but these words just kept coming out. So I thought, maybe I should listen to this good advice. I went to learn how to meditate, and instantly, I began having transcendental experiences. The moment I sat down in a room for a guided meditation with two or three hundred people, I shot into other realms—other worlds. I didn’t know what it meant, if I was losing my mind, or if it was good or bad. I had no experience with it.
I spoke to one of the assistants, and the next thing I knew, I was invited to India to study. What rapidly began unfolding was this access to higher realms. In those realms, I wasn’t in a physical body; I was a ray of light. I was exalted so high above the earth that it appeared the size of a marble, and I could see in every direction at once. I was in a light so bright, it was ten times brighter than the brightest desert day I had ever seen, and I didn’t want to shield myself from it. I wanted to be in it. I was that light.
With every breath I took, a beautiful, pink, iridescent horizon would rise, and with every exhale, it would rest and rise again. I knew this brilliant light was coming through me. With each breath, it was making its way into the physical dimension, into the Earth that was so far beneath me.
There were no psychotropics involved. I wasn’t on ayahuasca or doing journeys in that way. It was just me, my breath, and my own consciousness lighting up—remembering a deeper truth. I knew that this light was becoming love as it passed through me and was breathed to the planet.
I knew this was true for everyone—that we are rays, extensions of a divine field of consciousness, making our way into the physical dimension, breathing into it. I knew this was our purpose for being here.
Most importantly, in those moments, I felt that there was nothing missing, nothing broken, nothing to navigate or negotiate. I didn’t need to become anything. I was whole and complete. I knew this was true for everyone, and I had always been there. This life we experience on Earth was just a project I was engaging in. It wasn’t me, just something I was doing.
When I dropped down from that experience and came back into the room, meditating with the group, I looked around and knew my life had changed forever. I didn’t know how or why, but I knew I would never be the same. I now had an understanding, a direct experience that showed me that the life we’re living in these bodies and in this realm is just a version of who we are. It’s a reflection, not the true us.
As I realized this, I began taking life less intensely and personally. I started seeing it as an exercise in consciousness rather than a life-or-death matter. Little by little, I researched how to re-experience that state, how to open those doorways, and how to embody it physically.
I knew my mind had changed forever, but I also wanted to get rid of my migraines and heal my scoliosis, which eventually happened. My life, clinic, and circumstances fell into place beautifully as I embodied what I was experiencing in these higher realms.
Coincidentally, I was just looking to get rid of my headaches, and suddenly, I found myself in another world. It opened up an entirely different reality for me.

What does the statement “everything is energy” mean, and what are the implications if we embrace that idea?
Dr. Sue Morter: Quantum science references it as everything is energy and physical matter is just energy compressed into form. That’s a law of physics, not quantum physics, but just basic foundational physics that all physical matter is compressed energy.
Quantum science is showing us that our mind plays a role, our conscious intentionality plays a role in how that energy compresses or expands and how it flows and moves or gets stagnant and stuck, based upon how we use our mind. So that is very significant in the implications of how that can influence our lives and benefit us, generating a more masterful living presence for ourselves in our lifetime.
Spirituality has said everything is God. God is everywhere, everything is spirit, and they’re talking about the same thing. It’s just been separated by a common language and compartmentalized and categorized as if they don’t belong in the same paragraph.
For many of the years that I was growing up, science and spirituality were different worlds. Quantum science started to bridge that. It started to say faith and trust and belief and those kinds of intentions and mindsets or dispositions have an effect on how the energy flows through you and through your body and through your life.
Spirituality would say yes, we’ve been saying that for thousands of years and now science is saying yeah, but now we can prove it. We are now getting to dance together where our artistry and our essence, and our sense of presence and beauty and possibility and divinity, if you will, or even healing and love and unconditionality, in our left brain that says, “Yeah, but you know, I’ve got to make a living and I’ve got to make this work. And you know we can sit and meditate forever, but if we don’t do something, the bills won’t get paid, and the world won’t go around the way we know it.”
And so now, with quantum science in the mix, it allows for both of those things to influence one another, stabilizing our spirituality and opening up our scientific approach, our linear approach to life.
In short, I would say that it allows us to recognize that we have the capacity to heal, we have the capacity to change patterns of energy flow in our bodies and in our lives and in our relationships, in terms of, of course, abundance, which everyone is interested in. But there’s something so much more beautiful than the abundance that comes to mind when we think about the popular abundance of making more money, having a better job, being able to have more things to support my family and my life, etc.
There is an abundance that is so beautiful in all the in-between moments that, if we would harness that, we actually find all those other things starting to happen automatically, like out of nowhere, opportunities showing up that you didn’t even go for, you didn’t even know they were there to go for in the first place, and so on.
It also allows us to get outside of our shell, get outside of what we watched our parents do or our coaches or our teachers, and to know that our original medicine is what we’re supposed to be bringing to the planet. And by allowing ourselves to do that, we also actually have a unique experience of our true self in a way that no other set of rules or guidelines would allow.
When we’re doing it the way we were taught, or we’re doing what somebody else did, or we’re trying to mimic or mirror the things that were successful, that seemed to work, we’re generating a carbon copy of something else.
And yet, when we drop that just a little, a little bit at a time, and a little bit more and a little bit more, we drop into ourselves and we give permission for what’s in here, what I would love to do or express or share, to just be what I actually do and express and share. And what happens is at this subconscious and cellular level, we start experiencing truth, true self, solution, the one who is the bringer of the light, if you will, the bringer of solution and possibilities, and the manifester incarnate.
As we start to get a clue about that and we do it more and we choose from this place more and more and more, we start unpacking ourselves into an entirely different realm, because we’re walking a path that is aligned with the cosmos, it’s aligned with the stars and the constellations and the galaxies, and we’re in the pattern of the holographic universe and it gets to flow right through us without distortion, without interruption. And when that starts to happen, truly miracles happen.
I experience and witness them in my own life all the time, and I’m blessed to be able to share that in my coursework with people and watch their lives unfold.
How did the concept of The Energy Codes come to you, and how did it develop? Can you share the backstory for people who may not be familiar with it?
Dr. Sue Morter: I had this exalted experience, and then I became interested in how it happened. Was I doing something, or not doing something, in particular that allowed it to happen? How could I have it happen again? I became obsessed with that question and turned my life into a living laboratory for about five years. I didn’t talk about it much with others. I didn’t even have words to articulate it or bring it forward as a goal or vision. It wasn’t like that. It was just now part of me, it was life, but I really wanted to be able to reproduce it for myself again.
My true nature is that I immediately want to share what I discover with others. I’ve always been a teacher. I helped other people learn how to do this or that since elementary school. In graduate school, I was the one in the back of the library giving crash courses to people on how to pass the test we were all about to take. It was a real passion.
I started recognizing that while I had this exalted experience and was having more, my life was still the same. I wanted the two to become one transformed state. I wanted my life to be as transformed as my awareness had become because of these exalted experiences. So I began watching what I would do when I tried something that wouldn’t work. I’d try something else, and it wouldn’t work either. Eventually, I’d give up.
When I gave up, it would happen. I thought, “Okay, it’s about surrender.” So I added surrender into my intention—not to try to reproduce what I had experienced, but to be available for whatever was next to come through me or to me. That was an essential ingredient.
I started tracking all of this. And as I shared it with my patients—“Try this, breathe in this way, allow this to come through without trying to control it” — they began getting better faster. They stayed better longer in between visits to my office.
I knew I was onto something. It wasn’t just me; this was reproducible. Others could benefit from this disposition and pathway that was developing in my life. So I started codifying what was happening.
Over time, I began holding classes at night in my reception area, teaching patients how to get results faster in my clinic. Miracles, awakenings, and healing started happening.
I felt compelled to write it down, even though an awakening process isn’t linear. But we could lay out the ingredients we knew were necessary, teach those ingredients to people, and help them sense, feel, and perceive which ones were most needed and in which order.
This process became “The Energy Codes.” It was a way of codifying an approach to the various facets of life that are involved for many people. It allows the energies to not be wasted, but instead to be freed up inside the system. We can start piercing the veils between the energy centers and the levels of consciousness they represent, allowing for deeper integration. This enables us to elevate from the primitive brain to the high brain centers, where we see and perceive the world differently—one that is not against us, but for us. We interpret all circumstances—without exception—as being in support of us waking to our creatorship instead of being locked into our survivorship.

I want to make sure that we capture the last thing that you said. Can you repeat the last line about creatorship versus survivorship?
Dr. Sue Morter: Yes, the whole of our life is truly about pressing us into an alignment that awakens us to live from our creatorship rather than settling for survivorship. Currently, we live from a place of survivorship: I have to get mine, make ends meet, and try not to get too old too quickly so I can live long enough to get things right. It’s exhausting.
There is another version of us that exists above the primitive brain, where we recognize that grace is constantly flowing. If we stop resisting, it can flow through us. When we train our mind to sense, feel, trust, and act upon it, we begin to realize we can be proactive. We can create, rather than using our creativity to react to what others create for us. It’s a higher level of utilizing our creative essence, where we generate the life circumstances we step into.
It’s like creating in the dark, with only inspiration and passion to guide us. If you lack access to inspiration and passion, The Energy Codes helps open that up, because everyone has it. The key is whether your mind is connected to it or not. Are you aware that you’re made of that creative energy?
It’s a matter of waking up to a new expression of creativity—one that is ahead of the game, rather than behind it. We move to the front side of the model, learning to think, live, and breathe as creators instead of survivors.

Is this the quantum flip you refer to?
Dr. Sue Morter: The quantum flip is about shifting from survivorship, moving away from worst-case scenarios and trying to make the best of them. The densest version of this is thinking, “This is me, I was born this way, and this is my life; I’m stuck with no way out.”
Then, we move to a stage where we acknowledge that life is tough, but we decide not to let it get us down. We try to make lemonade out of lemons. From there, there’s a deeper understanding: there’s nothing wrong with lemons. You don’t have to try to make them something they’re not. Life doesn’t need fixing; it’s perfect as it is.
As we progress further in this quantum flip, we realize that everything we experience is actually in our favor. We are generating these experiences to help us elevate our perception of who we are. We let go of old beliefs about what we thought was necessary to feel okay or to get things done. Many of the things we believed to be true aren’t as true as we once thought.
When we fully embrace our ability to create, we understand that we can shape our lives without the struggles and hardships we previously believed were necessary. This shifts us into a different realm—one where intelligence existed before us. For example, I take people to sacred sites, like those in Egypt, and we see evidence of technologies and wisdom that are only now being rediscovered. The ancient Egyptians, for instance, had the ability to move massive stones and build monumental structures with intelligence we are just beginning to understand.
This reminds us that we are rediscovering something ancient, something that existed here before, and we are just now returning to it. When we start to see life as a practice ground for awakening, it changes the story we tell ourselves. In fact, I find myself less inclined to write those stories or make assumptions, because that can feel like a waste of energy. Instead, it’s more effective to save that energy and focus on creating and being proactive in generating a different experience for ourselves.

Let’s just say that someone is having a difficult experience – dealing with a big IRS bill, a divorce, or an illness? Give me an example of what it would look like to go from surviving to creating? Help us experience that.
Dr. Sue Morter: One of the first things that we have to do is not try to use the mind to transcend the mind, because it can’t.
But if we couple the mind with the body and then we couple it up again with the breath, the mind and the body and the breath together, now the mind has a potency to it, a groundedness and a capacity that can be discovered. Maybe not in that exact moment, but we can use that exact stressful moment to help build a better version of ourselves. So that, when it comes time for the solution to deal with the IRS or to deal with the divorce with grace, we have the circuitry in place to be able to do so.
The quantum flip would be to say, “This isn’t happening to me, this is happening for me.” Later, we would actually say, “It’s happening through me, it’s happening as part of my own awakening process.” While immediately it feels like, “Oh my God, this is terrible, this is terrible, this is happening to me, my partner is leaving me, the bill is here and it’s real, and I have to be the one that shows up to pay that.”
When we couple the mind with the body and the breath, we’re asking, “Where in my body could I build more circuitry to be able to perceive the gift that is here in this situation?” Because right now, I’m not seeing the gift. And what we know is that our perception, our reality, is a circuitry issue.
We either have the circuits firing that allow us to perceive it as no big deal, or we don’t have the circuits in place, and so we perceive it as the biggest roadblock that we could possibly imagine. We don’t have the experience, we haven’t built the circuitry, the neurocircuitry.
What I’m doing with people is showing them how to go straight to the source of why they feel overwhelmed by what’s happening in their life. If all their circuits were firing, they would have known the divorce was coming. They would be prepared to manage it with grace, with strength, with clarity. They would also know that rejection is a course correction, that if you don’t want me, there’s somebody else who does. That’s actually going to be a better match for me in my life, or I’m headed down some path that isn’t the path I’m supposed to be on.
There’s another way of looking at things. But if we don’t have the circuitry in place, all we see is, “I’m unlovable,” or “I’ll never be able to pay this bill, I don’t have the resources, I don’t have the money, it’s not going to happen.”
When we build more circuits, we have a capacity to see it from a higher bird’s-eye view perspective. We see that I’ll be more because of this, I’ll be better because of this.
Let’s say it’s a bill that comes in the mail. “Oh, I have no idea.” What I would do as a practice with someone (and it’s impossible to teach this in a millisecond, but just to give you the gist of it) is to say, take your attention to your body and see where is your charge. You’re having a charged reaction to this, and there’s an area of your body that you could specifically trace that charge to.

Is it in your gut, like a knot in your stomach? Is it in your throat, like a lump in your throat? Is it in your chest, like it’s tightened down? You tell me. If you just ask that simple question, what you’re basically asking is, “Okay, what level of consciousness could be more turned on in my body that would allow me to perceive this from a different perspective?”
For instance, we know about the chakra centers and the energy centers, and I equate them to levels of consciousness that are associated with each of those energy centers.
There’s a way of thinking that exists in the root chakra when it’s open and enlivened. There’s a way of thinking and knowing and being in the second chakra system that allows for a greater amount of wisdom to be present with every thought you think, with every conclusion you draw or come up with.
There is another level of consciousness associated with the solar plexus, which has to do with your clarity of mind and not getting carried away with your emotions. It’s just being pristinely present, because when you are present, there are billions of bits of information available for you to translate into thoughts, ideas, new inspirations, and creative ways of being. We just have to be able to turn those on.
And so on, with the heart and the throat and the third eye and the crown and all 12 levels of chakra system aspects of consciousness that I work with.
We ask, “Where in my system could I build the circuitry to better handle this situation?” The mind will go here (throat), it will go here (heart), it will go here (stomach), it will go somewhere.
I’m teaching people what to do once they find it. You go in there and you hug it, you squeeze it, and you’re literally being very physically active with the situation at hand. It’s very, very practical. What happens is, when we learn to breathe with that up and down through a central channel in the body, we start to integrate and turn on those aspects of our own consciousness.
We start to see that I got this email, or I got this bill in the mail, so that I could discover that I haven’t been living in this part of my body. I haven’t been living here, I haven’t been in my rootedness. By moving into that place, I can literally see this email, this letter in the mail, or these papers at the front door, whatever it might be. They’re actually here in my favor.
They’re here to awaken me to a greater version of myself. If I know what to do now that I’m aware of that—and that’s what I teach in “The Energy Codes”—I can enliven that aspect of my own consciousness and bring it on board. Suddenly, I have a new idea. I have stability.
The same circumstances are happening in my life, but it isn’t bowling me over. I’m inspired by it. I feel empowered because of the “me” that I’m coming to know as a result of all of this happening.
That is one way, a very big way, to start working with creating the quantum flip in someone’s life.
The very thing that was the worst thing that could possibly happen becomes the best thing that ever happened. Because of the circuitry that I was guided to turn on, I come to know more of the whole, full, true self of me. Instead of just the pattern of me that I developed as I was growing up, skating along all my life, half afraid that I’m going to be discovered that I don’t really have it all together. It just looks like it—or whatever that version of life might be for someone—that I feel inadequate or wanted to do something else with my life than I am.
Those kinds of things start to just not be acceptable anymore. We start to fill in the gaps and live into that from a creative essence standpoint. We become more capable of being creative. If we’re not running on all those circuits, we feel that we need to survive and strategize for that survival.

In addition to reading The Energy Codes: The 7-Step System to Awaken Your Spirit, Heal Your Body, and Live Your Best Life, where would you recommend someone start among your many resources and programs?
Dr. Sue Morter: I created a new program to answer that question, actually, because I get asked the question so much. I have so many different things that I teach and speak into because there are many facets to life. All of those facets of life became affected when I started embodying these exalted states of consciousness, and so I just wanted to share about all of those things.
It’s called The Art of Awakening, and it is an easy way for someone to plug in. It’s a modulated course, self-study, but it’s very engaging. I put you in the activity of learning how to build these circuits that I’m speaking about immediately. So, right from the beginning of the course, you’re having the experience of it yourself, not just learning about it intellectually. So, it’s very experiential, if you will.
That’s something that someone, if they’re really into this, and it’s really lighting them up and they want to plug in in some way, that would be a place to start.
Now, there are also things that you can do that are a little more… Just sit back and get your feet wet a little bit more. Get a little bit bigger idea of what this woman is talking about.
I do complementary healing transmissions. I have a podcast that is also called The Art of Awakening that they can dial into and check out.
I also am constantly doing some very entry-level programs that allow people to hear Q/A and be engaged in dialogue in that way…something called the Masterclass, which is part of a Gold membership on our website.
So, lots of things on the website that people can find and peruse through to see what feels the most accessible or interesting to them at this point.
Sue, thank you so much for just sharing your heart, your wisdom, your story with us. And you know this, but just as a reminder—our world is a better place because of you. I’m so thankful for what you’re bringing to our world. I really appreciate it. It is a gift to all the people that are listening to you and participating with you.
Dr. Sue Morter: Thank you, your words are received. It means a lot, and I feel the sincerity in you. That is truly what we need in this world. I want to thank you for what you’re doing to bring people together, and for the thoughts and concepts that you bring forward. You emanate this very thing that I’m speaking about, so it’s a joy to share space with you anytime. Thank you.
The very thing that feels like the worst thing happening to us can become the best thing when we shift our perspective and build the circuitry to handle it.
