The United States and Its Karmic Journey: Reading the Soul of a Nation

I first became aware of this notion of how to read the soul of a nation after reading a book written by Alice Bailey titled The Destiny of the Nations. This was followed by clients seeking Akashic Records readings and ancestral healing. I noticed that it was not just their family lineage we were healing, but also looked to be a collective picture of their birth location.

As I tracked the sessions’ key elements, my writing journey took a shift when I found that publishers from the United States were not interested in my Akashic Therapy book, but publishers in Germany, Russia, and China were.

Why would this be? A voice in my head answered, “They need to clear their collective karma of the wars and suffering of the last 100 years, and your book is a tool to do this.”

Ironically, I had titled the book Akashic Therapy: Unlock the Secrets of Your Soul, and placed an image of myself on the cover. So, I guess the work that I do in the astral planes in helping souls transition between lives was officially playing out on the earth level. 

When people speak of karma, we often imagine it as a personal ledger of deeds. Yet, in the mystical traditions of the Akashic Records—the so-called library of every soul, thought, and action—karma is not just individual. It is collective. Nations, like people, carry karmic imprints. They inherit lessons, repeat patterns, and undergo reckonings.

I have been living in the United States since 2011 and became a citizen in January 2017. I have since embraced my UK/USA persona and made some discoveries about the United States and how it affects my soul and work.

However, I have chosen to share my thoughts about my nation of residency and invite you to consider your birth or living location and how these factors may be affecting your Akashic record at this time.

The United States, barely 250 years old, embodies this truth vividly. Its history is a tale of high ideals and deep wounds, a constant dance between freedom and control, innovation and responsibility, diversity and division. To “read” America in the Akashic sense is to see a young but powerful soul wrestling with its own contradictions. Here are some of my thoughts on the timelines affecting us here in the US.

Seeds of Light and Shadow

The nation’s karmic imprint began with a paradox. The settlers and founders spoke of liberty, religious freedom, and opportunity. At the same time, they colonized land, displaced Indigenous peoples, and enslaved millions of Africans.

This duality—freedom for some, bondage for others—is the United States’ original karmic fracture. It is not merely history, but a spiritual pattern: the country proclaims one truth while living another.

The Civil War: A Karmic Reckoning

In the mid-19th century, America faced its darkest karmic storm. The Civil War was not only a battle for the Union, but a karmic balancing of the founding wound. Abolition marked progress, but Reconstruction faltered, leaving systemic racism embedded in new forms.

The lesson was clear: the US cannot fulfill its soul purpose without fully facing its shadows. The wound remained, awaiting deeper healing.

Power, Innovation, and Responsibility

By the 20th century, the US was a global force. It pioneered industry, culture, and technology, giving humanity airplanes, Hollywood, and the internet. In karmic terms, these innovations were the country’s gifts.

Yet, innovation carried shadows—wars fueled by the military–industrial complex, environmental neglect, and consumerist excess. The karmic challenge is: How to innovate without exploitation?

Civil Rights and Spiritual Expansion

The 1960s brought another karmic breakthrough. Civil rights movements, women’s liberation, and spiritual pluralism expanded the nation’s consciousness. The soul of America reached upward again, striving for inclusion.

But the backlash was swift—political assassinations, racial violence, and war abroad. The karmic pattern repeated: every leap forward met with resistance. Progress could not stick until the shadow was integrated, not just opposed.

The Digital Age: A New Test

In the digital era, the US once more shaped the world. Silicon Valley became the new frontier. Innovation linked billions of people in mere seconds.

But with this came new karmic entanglements: misinformation, polarization, and ecological strain. The Akashic Records would mark this era as a test: Can America use its genius to unite, or will it deepen division?

The Present Crossroads

Today’s United States is in a karmic crisis. Polarization rages, institutions are questioned, and the planet groans because of climate change. Yet, there are also voices rising for equity, truth, and ecological balance.

The Akashic perspective sees this as a turning point: either repeat cycles of denial and domination, or step into the soul’s higher purpose.

• Humility: Exercising power through cooperation.

If these lessons are embraced, the US could evolve into a bridge nation—a living model of collective freedom and ethical innovation.

Alice Bailey wrote that the United States operates through the Ray of Idealism and the Ray of Love, and under the intention of I light the way.

A Final Reflection

The karma of the United States is not punishment, but an invitation to grow into the ideals declared at birth, to transform contradiction into coherence, and to embody freedom not as privilege for the few, but as harmony for all.
