For most of my life, I believed something was wrong with me while at the same time knowing, without a shadow of a doubt, that nothing was wrong with me at all.

Based on feedback from the external world, I believed I was “too much” in some rooms and “not enough” in others. Too sensitive. Too intense. Too introspective. Too aware.

No matter what I did or how I behaved, I just couldn’t “get it right.” It felt like I was missing something that everyone else seemed to have all figured out.

So I quietly became competent, capable, reliable, self-sufficient, emotionally intelligent, and spiritually curious, and I learned how to regulate, manage, achieve, and perform. No matter the cost to myself.

These strategies didn’t start in adulthood. They were encoded as a child and shifted as I moved through my teenage years, early adulthood, and into adulthood.

From the outside, it looked like I had it all together. On the inside, however, I was in survival mode.

It took me years and deep work with neuroscience, somatic psychology, and spiritual inquiry to finally understand that nothing about me was broken and everything about me was adaptive.

And the same is true for you.

You are a human being whose mind, body, and spirit learned to adapt in exquisite, intelligent ways long before you had language to describe your inner world.

Most of what we call “self-sabotage,” “feeling blocked,” or “dysfunction” is simply outdated strategies created by a younger you who did the very best she could with what she had.

Those were simply strategies that once kept you safe, in many ways, helped you survive. We think it’s a character flaw. As if somehow you’re failing yourself. As if you lack discipline, willpower, confidence, or faith.

But neuroscience tells a very different story. Your nervous system doesn’t care about what makes you happy or fulfilled. It’s a predictive machine that takes its job very seriously in keeping you safe, alive, and accepted.

Your anxiety, hyper-independence, people-pleasing, perfectionism, emotional withdrawal, and overthinking…none of it is random.

It’s history encoded in biology.

Every pattern you carry today was once an intelligent solution to an earlier environment. And at some point, those same strategies ask to be rewritten.

The Language of Your Inner World

This is where a tool like NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) meets the spiritual path.

At its core, NLP explores how your inner world creates your outer one:

Neuro: This means how we take in the world. Everything you’ve ever experienced comes through your seven senses: sight, sound, kinetic, smell, taste, energy, self/time. That’s how your mind records life, like a camera taking in raw footage.
Linguistic: This is how we make sense of what we take in. We use words, images, sounds, feelings, and even self-talk to organize all that sensory input. In other words, your brain gives the ‘raw footage’ a storyline with meaning.
Programming: This is what we do with all of this information. Over time, our brains create patterns, or automatic programs, that run our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Some programs help us, and others hold us back. NLP helps us identify those programs and rewrite them so we can get the results we want in life.

In a nutshell, NLP teaches you how to use the language of your mind to get the results you want.

These internal strategies shape everything from how you love and communicate to how you respond to conflict, take up space, set boundaries, or hold yourself back.

And here’s something most of us don’t know about ourselves. Most of those strategies were formed by age eight. Not by your conscious mind, but by the sensitive, intuitive, deeply perceptive child you once were.

The Theta Years: When Your Soul Was Still Transparent

During early childhood, the brain spends most of its time in theta, a slow hypnotic frequency often associated with meditation, imagination, and deep learning.

In this state, children absorb the entirety of the world around them as truth. Not analytically, but through tone, tension, mood, silence, affection, absence, and unspoken rules.

Through experiences, a child creates agreements that eventually become strategies. And over time, those strategies begin to feel like identity.

I’ll use myself as an example. Growing up, when I asked for help, I was often told, “I don’t have time for that, figure it out yourself” (it being just about everything) with a sharp tone and a turn of the back.

A child does not think, “My parent is emotionally unavailable.” She thinks, “I must take care of myself.”

A child does not think, “There is instability here.” He thinks, “I must be strong.”

A child does not think, “Love is conditional.” She thinks, “I must earn it.”

These interpretations become internal agreements: “I must take care of myself.” Those agreements become strategies, like hyper-independence. And then they become identity, “I am the one who takes care of herself no matter what. I got this. Leave me alone.”

By the time you’re eight years old, the foundational architecture of your emotional and relational life is largely in place. And so you learned how to survive and belong. No matter the cost to yourself.

Strategies: The Invisible Architecture of Your Life

A strategy is simply a sequence, or an inner chain reaction.

For example:

Someone withdraws → tightness in chest → “I’m being abandoned” → emotional shutdown

Conflict arises → heat in body → “I’m unsafe” → appeasement

Opportunity appears → doubt → “I’ll fail” → hesitation

These patterns are not random. They’re maps you learned long ago.

Growing up, I learned to read the emotional weather of my home with astonishing precision. I could sense the mood of the room before I entered it. I could adjust myself to match what others needed. I could disappear when tension rose.

This strategy kept me safe. It made me intuitive, attuned, and empathic. And like all strategies created in childhood, it followed me into adulthood. Long after I no longer needed it.

For me, the strategy was invisibility. I called it humility. Until I realized it was actually protection. And I didn’t realize how deeply ingrained this strategy was until I had started my business.

While learning to use social media as part of marketing, I thought to myself, “There is no way on God’s green Earth that I will post a photo of myself.” So I posted my photography instead. I was terrified to show my face on the internet.

At the first networking event I attended, I was asked to stand up and tell everyone what I did. I remember being so nervous that my mouth went dry and my heart raced so fast, I thought I might blow up.

I would see everyone else doing these things effortlessly, while I would bump up against an invisible wall every time I tried it for myself.

I attributed those reactions to “fear of public speaking.” Little did I know that my entire system was fighting for my life because it believed I was going to get hurt if I was seen and heard.

Over time, with small micro-actions (and sometimes big macro-actions), I taught my system that I’m safe while standing on stage. It’s ok to post a photo of myself on the internet. It’s ok to be seen and heard.

I interrupted the strategy. I recoded the code. And I created safety from within.

You Are Not Your Patterns, You Are the One Who Learned Them

This is the part where compassion becomes revolutionary.

Your patterns are not proof of your inadequacy. They’re proof of your intelligence.

Your mind created shortcuts to shield you. Your body kept score so you could survive. Your inner child crafted maps to help you navigate unpredictable environments that felt overwhelming or emotionally complex.

But strategies designed for survival rarely create thriving.

There comes a moment, often very quiet and unexpected, when your soul whispers: It’s time to update the code. It’s time to become who you were meant to be, not who you had to be.

But you cannot outthink a nervous system that learned through fear. You cannot shame your way into safety. Real healing begins with reverence. By recognizing that every pattern once saved, you.

Your hypervigilance kept you alert. Your self-reliance kept you standing. Your emotional restraint made sure you were accepted.

These were not mistakes. They were solutions. And when you approach yourself with this understanding, something shifts. Shame dissolves. Curiosity emerges. And choice becomes possible.

Rewriting the Inner Code

Transformation is not about erasing the past. It is about integrating it. We do not destroy old patterns; we evolve them.

Through somatic awareness, nervous system regulation, and conscious and unconscious re-patterning, you begin to update your internal operating system.

You learn to notice where your body braces, where your breath shortens, where your voice tightens, or where your energy collapses.

And instead of judging, you ask questions and listen.

  • What is this protecting?
  • What does it need now?
  • What is no longer true?

And slowly, with tenderness and precision, you replace outdated strategies with new ones:

OLD: shrinking to keep the peace
NEW: staying grounded while speaking your truth
OLD: reading the room before reading yourself
NEW: honoring your own internal landscape first
OLD: over-giving to feel worthy
NEW: giving from overflow, not emptiness
OLD: hiding in moments where your soul wants to shine
NEW: allowing yourself to be seen, fully and without apology

This is not a mindset shift. It’s a nervous-system shift. A spiritual shift. A foundational remembering.

A Gentle Inquiry for Your Path

Pause for a moment and place a hand on your heart.

And ask yourself:

  • What age was I when I first realized the world wasn’t fully safe?
  • What did I do to protect myself?
  • How is that strategy still shaping my relationships, my voice, my boundaries, my dreams?
  • What am I ready to update?
  • Who am I becoming beyond this old pattern?

Awareness opens the door. Compassion invites you in. Choice transforms the room.

The most radical act in our culture is not self-improvement. It’s self-trust.

Awakening is listening to your body, honoring your timing, respecting your capacity, believing your inner signals, and allowing your voice to be louder than anyone else’s.

When you stop asking, “Am I doing this right?” And start asking, “Is this true for me?”

That’s awakening. That’s living inside your humanity with clarity.

You Are More Powerful Than Your Programming

Modern neuroscience confirms what mystics have long known. The brain is malleable. Experience reshapes structure. Attention rewires pathways. Presence reorganizes perception.

You can teach your system a new reality. You’re not locked into your history. You’re in a relationship with it.

Every regulated breath, conscious boundary, honest conversation, and every moment of self-trust is a neurobiological prayer.

You learned these strategies once, which means you can unlearn them. It also means you can relearn new ones that align with your highest self.

Neuroplasticity is not just a scientific concept; it’s a spiritual permission slip. It’s a reminder that you’re infinitely adaptable, infinitely capable, and infinitely creative.

You’re allowed to outgrow your survival strategies. You’re allowed to rewrite your internal story. And you’re allowed to choose a life that feels like truth instead of defense.

A Closing Blessing

You’re not broken, you’re not behind, and you’re not defined by the parts of you that learned to protect you.

You’re a sovereign soul remembering her power. A woman evolving beyond her programming. A human rewriting the architecture of her inner world.

May you meet yourself with tenderness. May you honor the strategies that once kept you safe. May you release what no longer serves your future. May you step into the version of you who is ready to be fully seen, fully expressed, and fully alive.

And may the next chapter of your life be written from truth and expansion, not fear and survival.

Your awakening begins the moment you choose to remember who you really are.

TAKE ACTION: If this resonates, start by noticing one pattern you’re ready to update—and meet it with compassion rather than judgment. To go deeper, explore the work of Tina LeAnn and step into the next chapter of your becoming.
