If someone is curious about feng shui, what is the most important thing to keep in mind in terms of the setup of their home or office?
Master Clarice Chan: In my experience, most people are concerned about their finances, success in their career, and relationships. These are the three main things to take care of in their home. The front entrance of your home is very important. I do flying star feng shui, focusing on the annual star pattern that brings forth the best energy. Negative energy must also be addressed, but the main door is the mouth of the home, where the chi goes in. It’s important to know the direction of the front door and clear any stuck energy.
In the living room, the southwest corner is crucial for relationships and prosperity for the next 20 years, so keep it tidy, beautiful, and energized.
The kitchen represents health and wealth, so its layout is important. Avoid having the sink opposite the wash basin or the stove. In the bedroom, the bed should not face the entrance of the door for health reasons. The kitchen and living room’s southwest corner are vital for wealth, health, relationships, success, and abundance.
How can someone clear the energy at the front door?
Master Clarice Chan: Sometimes the front door is full of clutter. Avoid piling shoes up to your nose level. Put shoes away from the front door in a shoe cabinet if possible, and have it nicely decorated to make it inviting. The space as you enter the room, that wall or space, is very important. If it’s bright and nicely decorated, it invites good energy for the feng shui of the home. Clearing clutter off the door and ensuring the space feels good as you walk in is crucial.

Did you grow up with mindfulness and spirituality?
Master Clarice Chan: Not so much as I was growing up, just a regular girl. You finish school, get a career, and I was moving along happily. I was in the travel trade as a travel manager. I became increasingly stressed and eventually got very sick. I started seeking healing. After surgery, I decided I didn’t want the corporate rat race anymore.
I began with Reiki but had always been interested in tarot. At 10 years old, I asked my brother to buy me a deck of tarot cards. Where did that come from? When I was 10 years old? You’re talking about many years ago. You couldn’t find a deck of tarot cards in Singapore, not in many places…

Did you actually have a deck when you were 10?
Master Clarice Chan: No, I didn’t. I keep asking for it. I didn’t get one until I was 26.
Where did you even come up with the idea of what tarot was at the age of 10?
Master Clarice Chan: I have no idea. It was just that I knew I needed a deck of tarot cards. I knew it contained pictures, and I believed I could read tarot. When I was little, I said, “I can read fortunes with it.” But, obviously, at that time, I couldn’t read tarot. I didn’t have a deck of tarot cards.
When I got my hands on a deck of tarot cards, I was able to do a simple reading. I started doing readings for friends. That was way before I got sick, but it was just for friends, for fun. Then, when I decided to leave the corporate world, I started doing Reiki healing.
In 2001, I left my job. In 2003, after graduating as a Reiki master, I had a fall and couldn’t do much for about 3 to 6 months. Performing healing for people was not comfortable during this time. That was when I felt the calling to do tarot. I remember walking on the street and thinking, “I have to survive. I can’t live on love and fresh air.” I needed to know what I could do to help others and myself. One word, “tarot,” felt like someone put a plate into my brain spelling it out.
I said, “Okay, great universe, show me how. Where can I go?” I couldn’t just buy a carpet and throw it on the street to start doing readings. I needed somewhere to go. That weekend, I got a phone call from a New Age Center in Singapore. There were only about one or two at the time. They needed a tarot reader for their upcoming mind, body, spirit event and asked if I was interested.
I said, “Sure, I’ll do it, but I don’t have money to pay for the booth.” They said, “You don’t need to pay any money, just come and do it for us. We will take all the takings.” I thought about it and agreed. I went to the show, did lots of readings, and gave them all the money. Before I left, they said, “Don’t leave yet, we want to speak to you.” They said, “We can’t just let you do three days of readings without paying you,” and they gave me some money.
From there, I had a database, and that’s how I started. That was in 2003, doing tarot at public events and then continuing in my own business. Eventually, I moved on to Feng Shui through the call of the spirit or universe. I was renting a space from a friend who had a shop house filled with Feng Shui masters. I was living and breathing Feng Shui every day.
Clients began asking me, “Why don’t you do Feng Shui?” I knew a little about it, having grown up with it, but I never had formal training. Intuitively, I could pick it up. When my friend suggested it, I agreed and did my training. Since then, I have never stopped.

When did you feel called to start helping others with your intuitive skills?
Master Clarice Chan: I’ll tell you what it was. I thought about this today. I was doing tarot readings after the festival, and then I started doing roadshows. They weren’t holistic events, just roadshows. I was one of the first to do public readings in retail shows, and they would call me a Chinese gypsy or other names. It was quite funny, actually.
What do you mean by a roadshow?
Master Clarice Chan: Okay, so it’s in a shopping mall. You have a retail show, like a mini holistic fair, but it’s not just holistic. It’s selling cosmetics or promoting toothbrushes. It’s like a retail show, and they thought it would be interesting to have a tarot reader, so they hired me. They’re like little shopping fairs, like bazaars.
I was doing a few of that and then I got clients that came to see me privately. But one day after I came back from my day’s work, and it was about 45 minutes to the place where I did my reading, I had a shared space at that time. I had just come home, and I got a text from this woman. She asked if I could do her a reading right away. I had just got home, and it would take me another 45 minutes to go out. She said she really needed a reading, and I said, “Okay, but can I do it tomorrow?” She said, “Tomorrow? Tomorrow will be too late.” There was something in her voice, so I said, “Okay, if you can wait for me for 45 minutes, I’ll come back to my office and do a reading for you.”
So I went back, she was there, we did the reading, and halfway through, I realized she was very depressed and suicidal. I asked, “Are you suicidal? Do you have suicidal thoughts?” She said, “Yes.” She said she was on the rooftop ready to jump when my card fell out of her bag. I had done a reading for her at a roadshow. She had called all the help centers, but they were all closed after five o’clock. Nobody would see her. I was the only one. She thought since my card fell out, the universe must be telling her to see me before she took that step. And here she was.
I was very shocked at the time, but it was very heartfelt. It was sad to know someone was considering taking their life, and if I had said no, she wouldn’t be here. Now she’s very successful. She has two grown children. I see her on Facebook, and I’m very happy for her.

What makes your tarot reading approach unique?
Master Clarice Chan: Coming from this side of the globe, most people say that I’m very direct and practical. I do not give any flurry messages. Clients often comment that they appreciate the practical advice I provide. If I can help a person with the messages, I try to present them positively and also give practical tips to help themselves.
You have many modalities on your website like feng shui, Chinese astrology, tarot, numerology, space cleansing, and Reiki. Which are you most passionate about?
Master Clarice Chan: Definitely the tarot, Chinese astrology, and feng shui. I’m well known as a feng shui master in Southeast Asia and perhaps now in the USA. I’ve been coming to Conscious Life Expo for 11 years. Before that, I did shows in New Zealand, Australia, the UK, and one in New York. Conscious Life Expo is where I feel the most connection, so I keep coming back.
Your newest book, “Master Clarice Chan’s Guide to 2025, Year with Yin Wood Snake,” is beautiful. Talk to people about what the book is and where they can get it.
Master Clarice Chan: The book has three sections. In Singapore, where 76% of the population is Chinese, the major festival is the Lunar Chinese New Year. The book explains activities at the year’s start to make it prosperous. It’s not just for the Chinese, as the New Year is based on the lunar calendar and the Aquarius new moon, symbolizing new beginnings.
We discuss activities to improve your life, covering feng shui, your home, and different directions that help. It also covers the 12 animal zodiacs and the different journeys each sign will go through each year. You can get it on my website, www.masterclaricechan.com, in digital or print copy. I’ll also bring some books to Conscious Life Expo.
What are the differences between Western astrology and Chinese astrology?
Master Clarice Chan: I have been asked by many astrologers about that. In fact, the co-founder of Conscious Life Expo, Shima Moore, runs the astrology round table. We discuss this topic often, like how to make Chinese and Western astrology meet.
Western astrology is all about the star alignments, the planets, and how their positions in your chart affect your everyday life, health, and wealth. Chinese astrology, however, doesn’t involve stars or planets. It revolves around the five elements and the 12 animals. For instance, 2024 is the year of the Yangwood Dragon. The dragon is the animal, and Yangwood is one of the five elements. In 2025, it will be the year of the Yin Wood Snake. Yin Wood is different from Yangwood. Yangwood is like a big oak tree, while Yin Wood is like flowers and plants.
The snake zodiac represents fire energy. Wood produces fire, so fire will be strong next year. The economy’s fuel is fire, symbolizing enthusiasm, excitement, and adventure. People will likely be more outgoing and enthusiastic about their lives and futures.
However, fire has extremes, like fire disasters, rage, and anger. Predominantly, fire is useful; it warms us. We’ve had a lot of rain this year, and it’s very cold in parts of the United States, but next year, the climate will likely be warmer.

What are you going to be doing at the opening ceremony and in your workshops at Conscious Life Expo?
Master Clarice Chan: We start on a Friday morning with our welcome session. I’ll be doing a Chinese New Year blessing to open the show. There will be other practitioners too.
I have a workshop on Saturday, “Prosper with the Yin Wood Snake,” focusing on energizing your home for 2025 for good health, prosperity, and success. On Sunday, I have the astrology round table at 3 pm. On Monday, I have the post symposium, a workshop using Chinese astrology to balance yourself and your life in 2025.
I will also have a book signing for “Master Clarice Chan’s Guide to 2025, Year of the Yin Wood Snake.” After the symposium on Monday, my post-conference workshop is at 11. After that, I’ll be doing readings on the mezzanine floor. So it’s all packed.
What do you love about Conscious Life Expo?
Master Clarice Chan: I love the people and the team. The team has changed over the years, but maybe it’s chemistry. Everyone at Conscious Life Expo has been very kind to me. They genuinely try to support the community by bringing as much as possible to the show. For a weekend, we fill up the entire four floors of the Hilton, creating a magical world. It’s like a modern-day Harry Potter for me.
What is a good first step for someone to work with you?
Master Clarice Chan: In our digital world, we can consult on the phone, Zoom, or any video calls like WhatsApp. My consultation usually involves doing your Chinese birth chart, which gives an overview of your life, feng shui colors, strengths and weaknesses, and life cycles. I use tarot to work with issues people are facing to find solutions. It’s not a magical step, but it provides directions and guidance they can consider to help themselves.
What’s the best place for people to reach out to you for a reading?
Master Clarice Chan: My website is www.MasterClariceChan.com, and I’m on Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and X. Just type in Master Clarice or Master Clarice Chan.
The front entrance of your home is very important. I do flying star feng shui, focusing on the annual star pattern that brings forth the best energy.
