These past few weeks (months?) have been challenging. Are you one of many that feels frustrated to the point of wallowing in hopelessness with all that’s going on in the world? Do you feel disempowered, confused as to what you could possibly do? Have you become aimless or even apathetic, getting your passport ready to move anywhere but here?
Trust me. I get it.
But, with the ongoing turmoil, it’s more important than ever to grab onto some possibility thinking.
Okay, I sense rolling eyes and shaking heads saying here she is with her magical thinking again. But allow me to explain.
Possibility thinking means trusting, actually knowing, that all things are possible no matter the appearance. No matter how hopeless it seems, things can and do shift. Often in the blink of an eye.
As someone who has experienced her share of frustrations and futilities only to have the most miraculous, even bizarre occurrences change everything, it does work.
Often, all it takes is countering your perception of hopelessness with just a moment of but, what if?
Plus, you don’t have to worry your pretty little head with figuring out what the “what if” needs to look like. In fact, the more freedom you allow it, the more amazing the results.
Truth is that all the groundbreaking changes this world has experienced came from asking that simple, somewhat simplistic question. Although it was rarely a walk in the park, when enough joined together and embodied the question, what if, the impossible became possible. Doors opened. Others joined in. The world said yes, why did it take so long? Why didn’t we think of that before?
And then, poof, it became real.

Some Caveats
There are some qualifications about possibility thinking I’d like to mention.
When tapping into limitless possibilities, no posing a fake Pollyanna-ish outlook, painting on a bright red Joker-esque smile or reciting several stanzas of look at the bright side.
In other words, don’t use possibility thinking to support spiritual bypassing. That means, allow yourself to feel the emotions you are feeling; the fears, frustrations, doubts and wanting to give up. Notice your thoughts going on behind those emotions, like who am I to deserve this; this is impossible; nothing works for me, etc. Acknowledge that those thoughts are not truths.
Recognize that all negative emotions are undoubtedly triggered fears wearing various disguises. And, as I remind my students: Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real. Fear only has the power you give it by buying into it as real.
Keep in mind that “acting as if” rarely works for long. Those suppressed emotions are gonna come out somewhere eventually.
One more thing: Be focused on what you want to accomplish, but don’t have expectations as to what will manifest or when. What shows up will be a puzzle piece in the Grand Design and Perfect Timing, but may not be at all what you thought it should be.
Understand that there’s a Bigger Picture in play here, and at some point, hopefully soon, what you’re going through and what manifests will make complete sense.
Authentic Energy
Possibility thinking is not sitting around wishing, hoping, daydreaming, fantasizing, or lalala-ing.
Possibility thinking means attuning yourself to your Higher Consciousness, your wise intuition, the part of you that does know. As I tell my students, intuition is knowing that you know and not knowing how you know.
It’s connecting with the power of thought; knowing that thought is energy. Simultaneously, it allows your thoughts to connect with the universe of others on the same wavelength, magnifying it exponentially.
Even if you think there is no way this can possibly happen, let yourself trust, even for a minute, that it can. Because, why not?

The Power of Possibility Thinking
Whenever I pose a question to one of my students and their automatic answer is “I don’t know,” my instant reply is: “What if you did know?” By giving them permission to know, their answer appears instantly. It’s amazing. Try it yourself.
This holds true for what we are going through as a species.
While reading the news or pondering the state of the world and you hear yourself say, I just don’t know what the heck is going on, ask yourself: What if I did know? Then, trust the answer that comes to you.
As one who asks myself that question all the time, what always comes to me is the world is in the middle of a quantum transformation unlike anything we’ve ever experienced. We are in the process of shifting from fear to love. And, like any major shift, at first things look bleak, hopeless, confusing and give the appearance of everything crumbling.
Honestly, that crumbling may need to happen in some way. Like doing a major remodel on a house that’s been the same for centuries – some walls may need to be knocked down and the foundation may need to be reinforced.
Sense this Possible New World We Are Creating
Imagine for a moment, massive amounts of people recognizing that anger is just a primitive reaction to a subconscious fear being triggered. Instead of declaring war on a neighbor, for example, see them choosing to stop, look within and determine the exact button that was pushed.
Imagine, if you will, this step-by-step scenario:
“Gosh, when your army crossed our border and tried to take our land, it really triggered me. I see that my button that was pushed is about people taking things that don’t belong to them. It’s all about possessiveness, and I guess I have a false belief that there’s not enough to go around.”
See this person choosing to look deeper, discovering the denied, suppressed part of themselves being accurately reflected. (I call that “mirroring”)
“When I looked deeper at my button, I realized that you were reflecting a part of me that does the same thing! Like when I cut someone off from the parking space they’ve been waiting for or taking the last cupcake so my wife can’t have it.
“I also remembered when I was two years old grabbing my older sister’s favorite doll and pulling off its head. Yikes! I decided right then I was selfish, and I certainly don’t deserve to have what I want the rest of my life. Thank you for helping me get in touch with that buried memory! I forgive myself!”
Then, the need to lash out automatically ceases since this person no longer feels like a victim. They take responsibility for attracting that mirror and are left with compassion and gratitude for the reflected lesson leading to more self-love.
“So, how about we sit down and see what we can lovingly do to rectify this situation? Honestly, I’m sure we can share that land… there’s plenty to go around! And give me a minute… I’m going to call my sister and apologize for destroying her doll!”
This process allows for making wise, intuitively based choices from love rather than fear-based violence. It also opens the door to clean up ‘forgotten’ things that were done in the past.
Let your possibility vision get even bigger: Those in leadership positions understand these concepts and lead from an evolved, awakened, wise awareness. War ceases since they finally understand that it never works. They shift their priorities and restore the environment. They make equity a priority since they know we are all the same. They recognize that loving someone is not determined by their gender. The list goes on…
What if… enough of us get this? Perhaps there won’t even be a need for leaders since we will all operate from personal responsibility, trust, compassion and connectedness.
What if… it’s not a coincidence that you are living through this interesting and often exasperating time of groundbreaking shifts so you can help others wake up? That you are aware of what your role is and take loving, pure action?
What if… you chose to be here to experience, learn and do things that could not have happened through any other circumstance at any other time? And that you knew you were ready to recognize and embrace these huge personal and global lessons without resisting, running or hiding from them?
What if… you knew your awakening would expand exponentially and is becoming the accepted reality of planetary existence? Imagining you have that power will start generating it. Afterall, we are all energetically connected.
Believe even for an instant that it is all possible and that you can be and are the change.
Because, what if?
