Eclipse season arrived like an amplifier on my inner world while touring my new album with Cheryl B. Engelhardt, According to the Moon. The universe insisted I lived out loud the records’  themes of duality, of light and dark. Even with a lifetime of ritual and lineage work behind me, old stories of insecurity, scarcity, and self‑doubt rose with surprising force. This is what I learned, and the practical tools you can use when eclipse energy intensifies your shadow material.

Eclipses are energetic pivot points: they accelerate endings, reveal buried patterns, and spotlight what’s ready to be transmuted. Think of them as a high‑frequency flashlight aimed at corners you’ve been walking past. The intensity isn’t a punishment, but rather, an invitation to clear and upgrade your field so you can hold more light.

Between Nashville and Los Angeles, mid-flight, I suddenly became ill—nausea, tightness in my chest, the kind of physical symptoms that make your body demand attention. At first, I blamed food, travel, and exhaustion. Then the memory of the previous night’s unresolved shadows surfaced: a harsh inner critique that I hadn’t sat with, an old abandonment chord that a passing thought had plucked. The sickness wasn’t just physical. It was the body signalling stress and anxiety that hadn’t been acknowledged or released.

That moment was instructive.

I realised eclipse season had turned up the volume on a thread I thought I’d already woven into my narrative of healing. Touring with an album about duality had the universe mirroring my theme back to me—an uncomfortable, yet gloriously clear, reflection.

Common shadow themes that get amplified.
Insecurity and imposter syndrome increase when visibility increases.
Reassessment of time, priorities, and creative boundaries.
Heightened sensitivity to critique and comparison.
Old grief, abandonment stories, or scarcity patterns resurfacing.
Polarisation in relationships as internal conflicts mirror externally.

Practical steps to notice and move through shadow during eclipses:

  1. Pause and map the sensation: Name the feeling, locate it in your body, and breathe. Awareness breaks automatic reactivity.
  2. Journal with a targeted prompt: “I am afraid that…” — repeat five times, then follow with “What would I do if I weren’t afraid?” This moves you from story into possibility.
  3. Treat symptoms as signals, not evidence: If your body tightens or you feel ill, ask what memory or belief is being held there before seeking only physical explanations.
  4. Use micro‑rituals you can do anywhere: 5 minutes of breath-work, a grounding chant, or carrying a tactile talisman to anchor intention.
  5. Contain the work: Create small, enforceable boundaries (15‑minute creative windows, strict rest blocks) so you don’t get swallowed by overwhelm.
  6. Mirror and reparent: Speak to the triggered part with compassion.  Start with “I see you, thank you for protecting me,” then invite cooperation.
  7. Energetic hygiene: Quick cord‑cutting visualisations, portable smudges or sprays, or holding a grounding stone to release stuck charge.
  8. Integration check: Each week, note one tangible shift and one pattern that needs continued tending.

Portable rituals that sustained me on tour

  • Moon‑aligned breathwork before every soundcheck (5 minutes to centre).
  • A short “reset” playlist and one grounding song, which I played between venues to recalibrate my frequency.
  • A mini altar in my bag: amethyst, black tourmaline, and a written intention card.
  • Hotel‑room clearing ritual: visualisation sweep, a splash of salt, foot soak when possible, then 10 minutes of journaling to land whatever rose that day.
  • Reframing the shadow: information, not indictment.

When eclipses amplify darkness, treat it like a radar pinging a specific frequency. The shadow is not proof you’ve failed — it’s information pointing to a belief or wound ready to be transmuted. Asking “What is this asking me to release?” is more powerful than “What’s wrong with me?”

How clearing shadow prepares you for the new‑earth frequency:

Clearing allows energetic bandwidth. When you remove the old narratives you unconsciously replay, you stop attracting the same small loops and begin to magnetise experiences aligned with expanded possibility. This isn’t perfection; it’s presence. Eclipses are evolutionary shortcuts if you meet them with curiosity, tools, and tenderness.

TAKE ACTION: If this resonated with you, Gem would love to hear which eclipse shadow showed up for you, or which track from According to the Moon surfaced something raw. Share a moment, or listen to the album and tell her which song mirrored your shadow. Continue the conversation and hold space for the shifts she’s birthing.
