Creativity isn’t just about artistic expression; it’s about connecting to the divine source of infinite possibilities that flows through each of us. As someone who has written over 40 books and built a publishing empire from my kitchen table with six children around me, I’ve learned that creativity is less about having the perfect conditions and more about being brave enough to open the floodgates when inspiration calls.
I’ve come to understand that creativity is one of our most sacred gifts. It’s the energy that allows us to birth something from nothing, to transform thoughts into tangible reality. When we tap into creative flow, we’re essentially channeling divine energy through our human experience. This isn’t mystical thinking; it’s recognizing that every invention, every piece of art, every solution to a problem began as pure creative energy seeded in someone’s mind.

Creative energy flourishes in simplicity, in moments of joy and happiness. It requires us to be present, to listen to the whispers of inspiration that often come when we’re least expecting them, like in moments of pause. I’ve discovered that creativity is like a muscle; the more we use it, the stronger it becomes. But unlike physical muscles, creative energy actually multiplies when we share it freely.
Let me share a personal story that changed everything for me. In November 2010, I had just given birth to my fourth child. I was completely consumed by motherhood, breastfeeding, nappy changes, school runs, yet something was stirring within me, and I felt a call to share my story.
Then I discovered NaNoWriMo, a challenge to write 50,000 words in thirty days. Any logical person would have said I was crazy. A new mother attempting to write a novel? But I also discovered that creativity doesn’t always follow logic. In fact, it often defies it completely.
I made a commitment to write 1,667 words every day for thirty days. While breastfeeding my baby, I was typing. First thing in the morning, when the rest of my house was asleep, I was crafting characters. In those quiet moments between loving chaos, I was creating a new imaginary world. The beautiful thing was that this creative outlet didn’t take away from my mothering; it enhanced it. When I was filling my own cup creatively, I was actually producing more love, more patience, more joy to give my children, it was as if I truly knew what it meant to live the words of the late Louise Hay “Inside us all there is an infinite well of love, the more love we use the more it flows to the surface, the supply is endless”.
By the end of November, I had written my first novel, The Visitor. But more importantly, I had discovered something profound: creativity doesn’t wait for perfect conditions. It flows through the cracks of our busy lives when we’re brave enough to honor its call.

Through years of creative practice, I’ve developed what I call the creativity formula: Stillness + Courage + Action = Creative Magic.
Stillness is where inspiration is born. In our busy world, we’ve forgotten the power of quiet moments. Creativity needs space to breathe, to percolate. Some of my best ideas come during beach walks or in those precious early morning moments before the world wakes up.
Courage is what transforms inspiration into action. It takes bravery to put our creative expressions into the world, knowing they might be criticized or misunderstood. But courage also means trusting the creative process, even when we can’t see the full picture.
Action is what makes creativity tangible. Ideas are beautiful, but they need to be brought into reality. This is where the real magic happens—when we take that inspired thought and give it form.
I would love for everyone to understand something important: creativity isn’t reserved for the chosen few. It’s your birthright. Every single person has access to this divine creative source. The only difference between those who create and those who don’t is the willingness to show up and honor the call.
Start small. Take one inspired action today toward something that lights you up. Whether it’s writing a paragraph, sketching a flower, cooking a new recipe, or solving a problem in an innovative way, honor that creative impulse.
Remember, creativity is a renewable resource. The more you use it, the more you have. Don’t wait for perfect conditions, more time, or until you feel “ready.” Creativity happens in the spaces in between, in the messy, imperfect, beautifully human moments of our lives.
When you align with your creative energy and choose to act on inspired thoughts, you’re not just making something beautiful, you’re participating in the divine act of creation itself. And that, my friend, is where true magic lives.
Trust the process. Honor the call. Create with love.
